Historia
Leah is changed. Months earlier, she left for a routine expedition, only this time her submarine sank to the sea floor. When she finally surfaces and returns home, her wife Miri knows that something is wrong. Barely eating and lost in her thoughts, Leah rotates between rooms in their apartment, running the taps morning and night. As Miri searches for answers, desperate to understand what happened below the water, she must face the possibility that the woman she loves is slipping from her grasp.

Great storytelling. The readers are terrific. I just wasn’t sure what it was all about in the end.

Historia
"That book. It was about two women, and they fell in love with each other." And then Lily asked the question that had taken root in her, that was even now unfurling its leaves and demanding to be shown the sun: "Have you ever heard of such a thing?" Seventeen-year-old Lily Hu can't remember exactly when the question took root, but the answer was in full bloom the moment she and Kathleen Miller walked under the flashing neon sign of a lesbian bar called the Telegraph Club. America in 1954 is not a safe place for two girls to fall in love, especially not in Chinatown.

Beautiful story.

The performance was stellar. The reader distinguished different characters well. The story brings voices out of the shadows and into the light.

Great performance, meh story
Revisado: 03-30-24
The reader did very well. The setting and storytelling were very good. It was the story itself that, while fine, i found predictable and unoriginal.

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

Amazing protagonist
Revisado: 03-15-24
This feels like four books in one, as it tells the stories of several different pairs of people and those around them. So you have to stick with it to see how things come together.
Juliet Stevenson is a great reader. Does different things with her voice so you know who’s speaking. Her choices are not over the top, as I’ve heard some others, but provide enough diversity that the story is easily followed. Wonderful job.

Historia
No straight women. No parents of students. Nobody under 35. Vanessa Martini makes no apologies for her dating checklist. She’s been up close to enough messy breakups to know what havoc they wreak in life. Just because people see her as fun and happy, and just because she loves her life in general, that doesn’t mean she can’t be careful. Or discerning. Or, okay, fine, super picky.

Loved story but not narrator
Revisado: 07-12-23
Beers knocks it out of the park as always. I was pulling for these ladies from the start. Great characters, great story development.
I always get the audio on a Beers book, too, but I did not care for the childlike voice the narrator used sometimes. It didn’t work for me and constantly took me out of the story. I know that’s not what’s intended so it’s puzzling why they used this same narrator again after the first book.
I wish the narrator would just read the book instead of trying to act out different voices.
That being said, I still plan on getting the third in this series! Rock solid writing.

This is one of my favorite cozy romances. I’ve read it and listened many times. Georgia Beers is an amazing writer. And the audio performance is wonderful here.
