Historia
Since the Final War, I’ve been doing just fine. I have a lovely cave, a darling vegetable patch, forest views . . . and if loneliness sometimes squeezes my aching heart, well, my books have always kept me company. That is, until a pack of hunters chase me from my home and right into the arms of several rather large, rather brutish ex-Army Rangers. And those brutes have the nerve to make me the rudest offer I’ve ever heard. Their protection—for my body.

A favorite for sure

Truly one of my favorite romances. The setting is tropey, but the characters and their experiences are so so real. Nonstop emotion, dangerous thrills, and spine-scorching spice!!

Historia
It’s a ghost town, this place that haunts me, the one that made me. It’s clear to me that I’ll never outgrow Triple Falls or outlive the time I spent here. I can still feel them all, my boys of summer. Even when I'd sensed the danger, I gave in. I didn’t heed a single warning. I let my sickness and my love both rule and ruin me. I played my part, eyes wide open, tempting fate until it delivered. There was never going to be an escape. All of us are to blame for what happened. All of us are serving our own sentences.

Just why 🥺

Cecilia, while annoying to me in the first book, felt much more self assured and relatable here. Tobias was such a real-life, well-balanced, and incredibly crafted villainous character.
Together, their story felt… flat? Rushed? Incomprehensible? They made zero sense to me and I couldn’t wrap my mind around how their attatchment formed in the first place, let alone stayed so intense and life-changing. Which only made all the Big Sad Things™️ so much worse to me, which then made their attachment feel offensive almost.
Was also just not a fan of the specific vibe of the spice in this one. The spice in flock was some of my favorite of all time, while this was just not my thing. Non-con of this extent/under these circumstances really icks me out, personally.
Rating this was SO HARD because I loved them so much individually, but together it just did. not. work. for me. 🫤
maybe if we’d spent more time with them like we did with our favs in Flock, I would have felt differently. Alas, I’ll never know. Definitely don’t regret reading, but the romantic writing choices here were not for me.

He’s 35 and all man, and I’m 22 and all...virgin. He’s also my fiancé. Correction: my fake fiancé. We start out as a bet. He doesn’t believe that anyone holds my last name against me. Love love love this book. It had me on the verge of tears so many times. The characters were well developed. Only complaint was I felt adding Sophie’s POV towards the end felt odd. But omg so good.
