Historia
A shocking discovery in a Native American burial ground in present-day North Carolina reveals a history-changing link to ancient Rome. In 55 B.C. the Roman Senate orders their most honored general, Demetrius Varinica, to cease mourning his wife and return to Rome to lead a fleet on an ill-fated invasion. The general and a handful of survivors from the devastated Fifteenth Legion wash up on an unknown shore and find themselves in a terrifying new world where every moment is a battle to stay alive.

A good addition to alternate history
Revisado: 07-09-23
Richard Blade does an admirable job in his first novel. While I enjoyed the idea, story and some of his storytelling, he still needs to further perfect his craft to have a truly moving and engrossing narrative. While I appreciate the attention and time given to historical truths (Roman fighting tactics, etc), and respect his attempt to weave them into a story, this novel didn’t quite capture my imagination.
I do recommend this novel to people who are entertained/interested in romantic storytelling of Ancient Rome and its legionaries.

Historia
The best-selling, award-winning author of Stiger's Tigers delivers the action-packed next installment in the Tales of the Seventh series. In this military fantasy, Ben Stiger is given a simple mission: march his understrength company to the Cora’Tol garrison far to the southeast. Once there, he is to take a fellow officer into custody and promptly return. But when Stiger arrives, he finds the Rivan have destroyed the garrison and slaughtered the inhabitants of the valley. Suddenly, what was supposed to be a quick and easy task turns into something far more dangerous.

Gritty and suspenseful
Revisado: 05-31-23
This is the 6th book I have listened to by the author; and it brings new depths without any repetition. Stiger and the 7th are pursued hotly from the start; and forced into many gritty, almost dark, situations and battles. The action is intense, bloody, and sometimes heartbreaking. If you enjoy historical military stories, you will love this. The low fantasy element is just icing on the cake!

An entertaining introduction to the series
Revisado: 05-29-23
After having thoroughly enjoyed the first four books of the Karus Saga, I was concerned the books set further in the future wouldn't be as interesting. I was happy to discover my concerns were unwarranted. Stiger is an captivating novel, following the formation of what I presume to be one of the author's main characters in the series. The writing does a fantastic job of making you frustrated with the way Stiger is treated by the other Soldiers. The author does a good job in that you end up absolutely hating his company captain. The story itself is engrossing, and I took every opportunity to listen to what happened next. I believe I will definitely enjoy this series!
