Historia
Connell and Marianne grew up in the same small town, but the similarities end there. At school, Connell is popular and well liked, while Marianne is a loner. But when the two strike up a conversation - awkward but electrifying - something life changing begins. A year later, they’re both studying at Trinity College in Dublin. Marianne has found her feet in a new social world while Connell hangs at the sidelines, shy and uncertain. Throughout their years at university, Marianne and Connell circle one another.

Well written and interesting, but also pretty dark. Physical/ mental/ sexual abuse. Not exactly a beach read.

Historia
Inside our military is a team of operators whose work is so secretive that the name of the unit itself is classified. Highly-trained in warfare, self-defense, infiltration, and deep surveillance, "the Unit," as the Department of Defense has asked us to refer to it, has been responsible for preventing dozens of terrorist attacks in the Western world. Never before has a member of this unit shared their story — until now.

DEI, PROGRESIVE POLITICS, SELF AGGRANDIZING
Revisado: 12-21-24
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK if you want a book on the military or military history. BUY THIS BOOK if you want to be lectured on the military's need to promote based on DEI.
From the start, this book is a lecture on why The Pentagon, the military, and society in general should prioritize people based on DEI rather than skills, achievements, and hard work. It promotes the focus of hiring and promoting based on DEI and not on skills, hard work, or achievements. There is virtually nothing in this book about military history, special forces, or elite units of the military or any agency.
This author thinks himself particularly unique, special, and better because of his background which is, in fact, not all that special. He is an immigrant, but many veterans are. Many veterans also carry a legacy of service including ancestors that were immigrants and served. I come from a long line of military veterans including my father, uncles, and many before. We were also once immigrants who served but, admittedly, long before me.
Unlike any other special forces or elite military veterans (or virtually any veteran) I have had the privilege to meet, honor, or listen to, this author promotes himself more than anything. I've read and listened to numerous books by great military veterans. I've had the privilege to meet many in person including every single war since WWII. Unlike this author, real heroes and veterans do not brag. Their sacrifices and their story, often told by others, do that for them.
I listened to the entire book - NOT because it was enjoyable or educational. It was neither of those. I listed for two reasons. One, in hope that it would at least be inspiring or informative on some level. It was not. Second, to make certain I could review this book in its entirety and not on just the first hour or two. I did not want anyone to suggest this review was not fair because I did not listen to the entire book. I listened to the painful last word. I hope this review prevents others from also losing 7 hours and 46 minutes of their life they could spend doing something useful, productive, and educations. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!

Historia
In the highly anticipated finale to the New York Times best-selling trilogy, dictators, prophets, and tensions rise. In a world that’s conquered death, will humanity finally be torn asunder by the immortal beings it created? Citra and Rowan have disappeared. Endura is gone. It seems like nothing stands between Scythe Goddard and absolute dominion over the world scythedom. With the silence of the Thunderhead and the reverberations of the Great Resonance still shaking the earth to its core, the question remains: Is there anyone left who can stop him?

Couldn’t finish it
Revisado: 05-07-24
The first book in the series was great, the second was pretty good, I can’t be bothered to finish this one. There is an exceptional amount of gender fluidity conversation. I don’t want anyone’s agenda forced down my throat when I’m reading for pleasure and this is, like, a whole lot! Also, the writing is just poor and the plot is wandering aimlessly. I’m bored and there are better books to spend my time on.

Good story line too disjointed.
Revisado: 02-13-24
The story had good bones. Unfortunately, it’s telling was almost schizophrenic. It was almost as if the story was written, and then the chapters shuffled like a deck of cards before going to print.
I had high hopes for this book based on prior reviews. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the end. Not because of the story itself, but rather the way it was laid out.
It was also too much at times. The superlatives, adjectives, and descriptions were simply over the top at times.

Somewhat boring and rather disjointed storyline for John Grisham. So far my least favorite of any of his books, and I’ve listened to six so far.

Mallory Greenleaf is done with chess. Every move counts nowadays; after the sport led to the destruction of her family four years earlier, Mallory’s focus is on her mom, her sisters, and the dead-end job that keeps the lights on. That is, until she begrudgingly agrees to play in one last charity tournament and inadvertently wipes the board with notorious “Kingkiller” Nolan Sawyer: current world champion and reigning Bad Boy of chess.

I couldn’t finish it…
Revisado: 11-14-23
I have historically liked this author, but this book was a fail for me. Strike one is the frequent and detailed descriptions of the main characters bisexual encounters. It felt gratuitous. Strike two is the long chess play by play segments. You have to really know your chess to follow along, or it’s just gibberish.

Super smutty and trite
Revisado: 10-18-23
This came up in my audible suggestions and the bundle was a great deal. It got really, really dirty a short time in. The story started off kind of cute, but pretty soon it was just crazy long (and graphic) sex scenes and a silly story. If that’s what you are looking for- you found it! I couldn’t finish it.

Historia
Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months - ever since I caught my can’t-be-soon-enough-ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I’m 35 years old, and I’ve lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity. But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who’s ever gotten me. Even after death, though, she’s helping me get back up again. Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house.

Too Much effort at political persuasion. Not why I read this series.
Revisado: 07-01-22
Way too much effort at inserting political issues. That’s not why I read or listen to this series. If I want a debate on gay rights or abortion there are more than enough outlets for that. Disappointing that had to be the dominant theme in this book.

The New Stephanie Plum
Revisado: 08-14-20
I have been a Stephanie Plum fan forever, even when it got cheesy and predictable. This series is similar, but smarter! The characters really come to life and it’s all very relatable. Can’t wait for the next one! Also- this reader is awesome!
