Historia
Berkeley uses the Socratic mode of inquiry in Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous to question fundamental beliefs about knowledge and reality. These dialogues are between Hylas (whose name is derived from the ancient Greek word for matter) and Philonous, whose name means "lover of mind". The new physical sciences developed in the 17th century supported the materialism proposed by Thomas Hobbes and several other philosophers.

Ray brings the characters; their frustrations and convictions to life. Berkeley's best arguments for immateralisme.

Historia
It is thought that Plato, the Athenian philosopher, was born in 428 BCE, and died at the age of 80 or 81. Plato's innate intellectual capabilities and incredible perspective on the world around him allowed him to become one of the world's greatest philosophers and contributors to western thought and understanding. He was born into an established family who were both wealthy and very politically involved.

Historia
Philosophy begins with questions about the nature of reality and how we should live. These were the concerns of Socrates, who spent his days in the ancient Athenian marketplace asking awkward questions, disconcerting the people he met by showing them how little they genuinely understood. This engaging book introduces the great thinkers in Western philosophy and explores their most compelling ideas about the world and how best to live in it.

a worth while introduction
Revisado: 01-26-17
The narrator is brilliant. The only drawback is that he talks a bit slow for my taste - so the audible speed settings comes in handy. the book simplifies and cuts corners in order to get through- but this is clear, even from the title. If your looking for advice or recommendation for what philosophers to read - or indeed advise about why reading philosophy is a good idea or not, this is a good place to start.

Historia
The dramatic nature of Plato's dialogues is delightfully evident in Symposium. The marriage between character and thought bursts forth as the guests gather at Agathon's house to celebrate the success of his first tragedy. With wit and insight, they all present their ideas about love - from Erixymachus' scientific naturalism to Aristophanes' comic fantasy. The unexpected arrival of Alcibiades breaks the spell cast by Diotima's ethereal climb up the staircase of love to beauty itself.
