starts well but ...
Revisado: 08-16-20
I found the first book ok, and thought things would improve building into a good unfolding story.
Book two was quite good, new event, building on characters we were getting to know.
However by book four things became a matter of just reading about all things military and I only got a little way into book 5 and realised all I was hearing was blah blah blah and I abandoned.
Still I'm sure it appeals to some taste. Not for me.

143 hours without an ending
Revisado: 03-10-20
I was loving this series - there seemed to be a couple of interwoven themes that were very different to any other zombie stories and I kept wondering what the final ending would be as I couldn't tell if it would go the way of total calamity or victory.
SPOILER ALERT - there is no ending and I was left angry. Some threads got a kind of ending, but the whole carry on about child zombies and cats just fizzled, and some communities were still in some state or another.
I'm left feeling that it was a total waste of my time.
Narration was brilliant.

David Thorpe huge thumbs DOWN
Revisado: 01-08-19
I cannot believe that narrators can be hired and not know a story, not listen to how previous books in the SAME series have been narrated, and not instructed in PRONUNCIATION.
I am just about screaming at him every time he so ridiculously pronounces LIVEship as LIVship. How is it possible anyone could do this? Now you must understand that the whole concept of liveships is one of the absolute cores of nearly every series written by Robin Hobb, so to have a narrator mispronounce a CORE is so infuriating I just can't believe it could be allowed to happen.
The other many mispronunciations are annoying, but I've managed to suck it up, but livship is just beyond ridiculous and not acceptable. I am one avid Robin Hobb fan who has purchased every single book, both paperback and audiobook and is suddenly thrown this horror on the very last book. UGH shame on you audible.

There are reasons we fear the night. He's not one of them. Bill Ryder was a dateless geek until he met a girl to die for. So he did. Sadly, that was just the beginning of his troubles. He awoke as a vampire, but fangs or not, he was still at the bottom of the food chain. Join Bill in this hilarious tale of immortal monsters and the man who's not afraid to flip them off, even if it gets him killed - again.

I enjoyed the slapstick humour in a modern world setting. Real escapism. The story is not completely predictable so you can just sit back and go along for the ride and enjoy the sudden sideways turns taking you somewhere else completely unexpected.

narrator ruins the experience
Revisado: 04-22-17
This series was OK, but the narration was so shockingly performed it is hard to tell if it actually may have been a good story had it been told well.
I just looked at another series to purchase and had to pass it by because when I clicked to listen to a preview I may as well have been listening to this series again - the voice, including character voices were exactly the same - BAD BAD BAD.
I've never given a review like this before, but this narrator ruined the story and that needs to be said.

The penultimate volume of the mighty Riftwar Cycle. War rages in Midkemia but behind the chaos there is disquieting evidence of dark forces at work. Jim Dasher’s usually infallible intelligence network has been cleverly dismantled; nowhere is safe. He feels that the world is coming apart at the seams and is helpless to protect his nation. shocking narrator
Revisado: 09-25-16
I have been listening to the entire Crydee series of books.
TWENTY SEVEN books in a row narrated by the same narrator - Peter Joyce.
He was reasonably consistent throughout the series and his voice became everything you expected in every character.
Suddenly the twenty-eight book is narrated by someone else.
Now it's not just that the narrator has changed, it's that John Meagher is a very poor narrator indeed. I keep screaming at him while listening!
What makes a poor narrator that ruins a story?
He talks way too fast. Every sentence is said like he is in a race, and there is barely a pause between sentences.
I cannot believe that this close to the end of such a huge series by such a well-known author, it can be totally ruined by anyone having paid money to such a poor narrator.

Narrator sucks
Revisado: 01-13-16
I managed to cope, just, when Roy would sometimes say character names wrong but mostly get them right in previous books in this series. eg sometimes Joffrey sometime Jeffrey
But in this book he has completely lost the plot - honestly doesn't he know their names?
It is driving me mad and if this wasn't the most incredible series I would not finish. It is the lady Catelyn, pronounced CAT - ilin, not KATElyn.
Truly it is ruining it for me and I keep yelling at the narrator who said her name right in all the previous books. There is another character he is pronouncing wrong in this book but I forget at this moment as I just raced here to log in after getting so frustrated. I hope someone can get the feedback to the narrator who should donate his time for free to correct the pronunciation on every character name and we should all receive a free copy in apology.
There, that feels better! (until I hear him again)

Narrator makes all the difference
Revisado: 01-20-15
Now this is purely a personal view, and many people may have a totally different perception, but for me, Anne's voice nearly prevented me from listening to the trilogy. The first 10 minutes of book 1 and I was nearly up the wall with the swishy voice, just listen to a sample and you will see what I mean.
By the second book I found I didn't notice it most of the time, and by the third book I played a sample for my daughter (in her late 20's) and she exclaimed in dismay that she could never listen this series.
OK, just MHO. The books themselves are so incredibly brilliant that the narrator was worth putting up with.

Historia
The moving end to the tale of the Farseers, in which kingdoms must stand or fall on the beat of a dragon's wings, or a Fool's heart. A small and sadly untried coterie – the old assassin Chade, the serving-boy Thick, Prince Dutiful, and his reluctant Skillmaster, Fitz – sail towards the distant island of Aslevjal. There they must fulfil the Narcheska’s challenge to her betrothed: to lay the head of the dragon Icefyre, whom legends tell is buried there deep beneath the ice, upon her hearth.

Terrible quality production
Revisado: 01-20-15
This is yet another totally brilliant series by Robin Hobb, building perfectly on the previous Liveship Traders and Assassin series.
But the audio editors left MANY instances of repeated lines often with the narrator giving a sigh of frustration before starting the line again.
The first time gave me a giggle, but it happens repeatedly throughout the book as though the editing job was rushed. By the end I felt truly annoyed. I've not had an audio book from here with so many issues like this.
I hope it will be re-edited. Robin Hobb books so rock and Nick is a fair narrator.

beware buying this book
Revisado: 12-11-12
The story is coming together amazingly, the pace is way faster than we have been used to, but then we all know that the next book is the last, so the pace has to pick up in order for the story to be complete in only one more book.
I got more used to the voices of the narrators as this is my second audio book for WOT, having listened to the Gathering Storm. I still find the voices a little stilted for some characters, but I kind of got past that too.
HOWEVER LISTENER BEWARE
This is supposed to be an unabridged version and yet they DO NOT READ THE GLOSSARY!
This is a CRIME.
Anyone who has been following this series for years has been waiting with great impatience and anticipation to find out who killed Asmodean - it is one of the world's best kept secrets and has been debated for years and years online as we waited for the answer.
Again anyone following this series is by now well aware that in this book the answer is revealed ... BUT ONLY IN THE GLOSSARY.
SO I was totally outraged that the glossary was not read out at the end of the book as it was a VITAL part of the book (the glossary in WOT has always been vital for the gems of information it contains and the glossary changes in every book).
SO BEWARE - if you are a true fan and wanting to READ the answer to the most intriguing question in your mind you will be left high and dry.
I had to finally succumb and phone my daughter and BEG for her to read the glossary entry to me. It was not the great height of light being shed that it would have been to have the glossary read out to me.
SHAME ON THE PRODUCERS OF THIS AUDIO BOOK FOR CALLING THIS UNABRIDGED.
PS no I won't say here who killed him, you will have to find it out by buying the hard copy :)
