Historia
Julia Long is starting her senior year with an extra dose of crazy. The dreams of cultish, bloody rituals are weird enough, but the victim in her dreams is her new classmate, Graham. Graham admits he was a Phoenix but swears he left it all behind. As Julia works with Graham to figure out why she is dreaming about his past, she's discovering she has other abilities. Julia doesn't know where her new talents come from, but there's no denying that when Graham is near, her powers kick into overdrive.

Great Narration to an intriguing story

Would you listen to Phoenix Awakens again? Why?
I think I would if I had it downloaded. I enjoyed driving and listening to it, I found myself looking forward to errands or even cleaning so I could listen to it. The story was not my normal M.O. but I liked the sample, the narrator fit the YA sound bill perfectly.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Phoenix Awakens?
I thought the beginning was most memorable, her best friend ditched her at their favorite band's concert texting her grandmother was in the hospital. It turns out she lied and completely stabbed the main character in the back. The shock and betrayal conveyed in her voice was very relate-able.
What does Alisha Bade bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
It was really enjoyable listening to this, the various voices she did for different characters added depth to the specific characters and fit them perfectly, bringing the story to life. I might not have read this book, but as an audio it was engaging and entertaining. I really felt for the main character as she went through her experiences.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I didn't cry, but at one point she is bullied and later betrayed, which is relate-able to anyone in or out of high school. A few points were funny and I did chuckle.
Any additional comments?
The narration was completely on target, she was professional and easy to understand. The characters were easily identifiable by the pitch or accent she used consistently for all characters. It really brought the story to life and I enjoyed listening to it.
