Well researched and written. The narrator was great! This tragedy was a perfect storm on all levels. I was moved by the heroism of so many but disturbed by the euthanasia of the most helpless.

Historia
Acquired Tastes is a celebration of life's extravagances. It explores an aspect of human nature that, although dormant in hard economic times, is capable of erupting with the hint of good fortune and the drop of a credit card. It samples the luxuries of Havana cigars, Parisian hotels, bespoke London tailoring, and handmade shoes; discusses the proper color for a stretch limousine; and weighs the cost versus the pleasure of keeping a mistress.

I love Peter Mayle books. The Audible version is wonderful. “Acquired Tastes” gives you a wonderful taste of the Good life, no matter your financial capabilities. Just perfection, so interesting and the “tongue in cheek” humor was so entertaining. Bravo!

Sixty-nine-year-old Arthur Pepper lives a simple life. He gets out of bed at precisely 7:30 a.m., just as he did when his wife, Miriam, was alive. He dresses in the same gray slacks and mustard sweater-vest; waters his fern, Frederica; and heads out to his garden. But on the one-year anniversary of Miriam's death, something changes. Sorting through Miriam's possessions, Arthur finds an exquisite gold charm bracelet he's never seen before.

Historia
Long fascinated with the Mexican Revolution and the vicious border wars of the early 20th century, Winston Groom brings to life a much-forgotten period of history in this sprawling saga of heroism, injustice, and love. An episodic novel set in six parts, El Paso pits the legendary Pancho Villa, a much-feared outlaw and revolutionary, against a thrill-seeking railroad tycoon known as the Colonel, whose fading fortune is tied up in a colossal ranch in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Revisado: 08-12-19
This book snuck up on me. My son suggested I read it but I thought it would be stale and boring. Groom’s writing style is a gift to us all. This needs to be a Netflix original! Wonderful story and definitely shows the grit of El Paso! A must read!
