Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. Revisado: 07-30-24
I got a peek into gamer & game creators lives & I’m not impressed. Makes me sad how empty their lives are.

Historia
In 2009 Smith pleaded guilty to a seemingly minor charge of campaign malfeasance and earned himself a year and one day in Kentucky's FCI Manchester. Mr. Smith Goes to Prison is the fish-out-of-water story of his time in the big house, of the people he met there and the things he learned.

Prison reform now! ( Adult language )
Revisado: 05-06-24
A worthy read providing insight into the destructive, money-wasting travesty of US prison system. His basketball skills definitely saved him!
While I don’t agree w Smith’s Liberal Politics and I definitely do NOT agree that prisoners should have the right to vote 😣! I do agree we are wasting so much human potential & making many worse criminals than when they went in. Break the cycle, guide the individual to a new path, reunite families, reduce recidivism, use halfway houses during parole, even remove gang tattoos, while saving so much $$$. Many prisoners can barely speak clearly, read or write. Education, life skills, reform & mentoring should be prison system goals balanced with the need to get truly dangerous criminals off the streets. Warning: can’t listen to this with the kids, the prison language is authentic, rough & R++

Woodrow Wilson Nickel, age 105, feels his life ebbing away. But when he learns giraffes are going extinct, he finds himself recalling the unforgettable experience he cannot take to his grave. It’s 1938. The Great Depression lingers. Hitler is threatening Europe, and world-weary Americans long for wonder. Behind the wheel is the young Dust Bowl rowdy Woodrow.

Loved it!!
Revisado: 05-06-24
Listened to this on a road trip & loved it. I learned so much about the history of the dust bowl, giraffes, zoos, treatment of “dust bowl escapees “. The narrator is wonderful. I’ve already recommended to several others & every one gave it 5 stars. I’ll listen to it again with my grandkids when they get a little older.

Historia
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Sad & heavy
Revisado: 02-24-24
If historically correct, what people went through was horrendous. Still I kept waiting for someone to find happiness or be redeemed. A very heavy, sad story. That being said, I greatly disliked the false description & glorification of communism. There are other, much better solutions to ensure Workers Rights. The spoiled, bratty, know-it-all daughter drove me crazy. Like the story’s conclusion, too little, too late from her. I Appreciated learning more about this era in US history but can’t recommend the overall story.
