Historia
While most of us are familiar with the Underground Railroad, there was much more to the movement than helping individuals escape their bondage. In the eight lectures of The Abolitionists, Professor Kellie Carter Jackson of Wellesley College will bring you along as she traces the history of the fight to end slavery in America, from its relatively quiet origins to the turning point at Harper’s Ferry to the Civil War.

Well researched and great narration
Revisado: 03-17-25
Kellie Carter Jackson starts the narration by taking about how she became interested in history and story telling. And, she nails it. Lots to learn , this is a well researched series of lectures about a topic that gets swept under the rug. It’s very engaging, Jackson’s narration is excellent.

Well written story- terrible narration
Revisado: 11-14-23
The book is great. The story is well written and easy to follow except…
The narrator mispronounces so many words that it's distracting. Makes one wonder where she learned to read. It's so bad it's almost comical. Sadly from now on I'm going to struggle not to say El “Cagen” when I'm El Cajon.

Historia
A groundbreaking work of science fiction, The Left Hand of Darkness tells the story of a lone human emissary to Winter, an alien world whose inhabitants can change their gender. His goal is to facilitate Winter's inclusion in a growing intergalactic civilization. But to do so he must bridge the gulf between his own views and those of the completely dissimilar culture that he encounters. Embracing the aspects of psychology, society, and human emotion on an alien world, The Left Hand of Darkness stands as a landmark achievement.

Thought proving and imaginative- didn’t care for the narrator
Revisado: 06-30-23
No wonder this book has so many accolades. Guin’s story telling is top notch. She deals with issues that are still relevant 50 years after she wrote the book. Gender, xenophobia, cultural change, The ice world she created is very believable, the adaptations humans had to make to colonize Winter, are well thought out.
I wasn’t as happy with the narrator. His voice is quite flat and the voices he makes for different characters borders on annoying.

Big Nothing Burger- save your money
Revisado: 06-13-22
3 hours and 23 minutes of talking about all the different types of pain there are. He goes on and on with case after case of people who carry stress, people who have anxiety or depression, or who put too much pressure on themselves. You know what that describes me 100%. He makes a strong case for the role that the mind has in causing pain.
Here's describes his "program", but never actually talks about how to implement it. There's not one thing here about how to make the changes he says are needed to eliminate back pain. He goes on a diatribe about the failures of modern medicine to help people with back pain. But when it comes to how to solve the problem... vague. Nothing there.
This was a waste of money. All of these reviews praising the book and how it changed their lives, help me understand what I'm missing.

Historia
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.

Narrator was easy to listen too. I loved his sense of humor, but at the same time he delivers a ton of great science.
Highly recommend. If anyone ever asks me again what my favorite dinosaur is, my answer will be “a chicken”!
