There, he encounters Emiko...Emiko is the Windup Girl, a strange and beautiful creature. A true 5 star book
Revisado: 01-02-18
I have a hard time finding criticism of this masterpiece. Maybe just that a single LED would never equate to the value of a human life. But that is neither here nor there. This book is absolutely amazing. From the ethical reverence of Thai culture, to the painting of landscapes you can almost reach out and touch. I don't know if this is the effect of fever dreams and stop loss that Paolo endured during his research but he has yet to follow it up with anything even comparable. I have read this book 7 times now and I always find subtlety and new emotion. It is the best Sci-fi of our time.

I'm a little sad I bought this one. It is technically science fiction but the science and cultural aspects are only lightly touched on. It deals with conditioning of soldiers but really misses on it's attempt for greater meaning. The ending is also kind of a non-ending. No greater resolution or profound statement. The whole thing seems a little lacking and repetitive. Bacigalupi's quintessential and profound novel remains Wind up Girl. Everything he has written since seems to be backwash. I will continue to buy his novels though. Another diamond may yet appear.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Amazing narration! Certainly did the book justice.

Would you listen to Frankenstein again? Why?
For it's time this book is a fascinating read. But it's pretty much just a story of abandonment and daddy issues. I found myself crying "get on with it ffs" on numerous occasions. It may have just been the language of the time.

Hippy sh*t

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
What you would expect a free love eco feminist to write. It doesn't really resonate with me in the slightest and sometimes reads like a porno romance novel. Some of the science fiction aspects are interesting and the breaking of social dogma from this era was cool too. I just didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I would have.

Through interviews, this book of oral history captures the effects of the Great Warming on various countries and individuals, as reported in the year 2084.

Utterly tone-deaf

What would have made 2084 better?
This book puts words in everyone's mouths in a format that is unsettling and infuriating. The science is sound I guess. The social aspect is lacking development.
