Historia
This insightful chronicle takes listeners inside the experiences of America's fighter pilots and bomber crews, an incredible assortment of men who, in nearly four years of warfare all over the globe, suffered over 120,000 casualties, with over 40,000 killed. Their stories span the Earth, into every corner of the combat theaters in both Europe and the Pacific. And the aircraft explored are as varied, tough, and legendary as the men who flew them.

John McManus has done his work

Very fine history of the subject aimed at a general audience. McManus bases his observations of primary sources, largely the letters and diaries of US bomber and fighter pilots, crews, and ground crews.
The narration by Jonathan Davis is excellent.

Historia
Dean Acheson was one of the most influential Secretaries of State in U.S. history, presiding over American foreign policy during a pivotal era - the decade after World War II when the American Century slipped into high gear. During his vastly influential career, Acheson spearheaded the greatest foreign policy achievements in modern times, ranging from the Marshall Plan to the establishment of NATO. In this acclaimed biography, Robert L. Beisner paints an indelible portrait of one of the key figures of the last half-century.

Unsophisticated Reading
Revisado: 12-12-18
Robert L. Beisner's biographical history of Dean Acheson provides few surprises to those who have studied the period, but I think the book would well be worth picking up as a general life story of the political Acheson during the early years of the Cold War.
That said, this was a most unsophisticated reading of the story of a most sophisticated man. Regrettably the narrator presents a reading without nuance or depth. Mr. Bartolone mispronounced words and stumbled in the text. All these flaws detracted from the telling.
Audible offers so many talented readers like Noah Michael Levine, Michael Butler Murray, Jim Frangione, or so many others, I'm puzzled as to why Mr. Bartolone was chosen. An ill-advised decision.
Listeners beware. The story of Dean Acheson, a pivotal character in the history of the Cold War, is worth better.

Historia
This book describes the often overlooked World War II campaign for Norway - a complex series of battles in which Hitler out-gambled Churchill in order to secure a vital resource lifeline for the Third Reich. After Hitler conquered Poland and was still fine-tuning his plans against France, the British began to exert control of the coastline of neutral Norway, an action that threatened to cut off Germany’s iron-ore conduit to Sweden and outflank from the start its hegemony on the Continent.

Fine history; narration not so good
Revisado: 07-20-13
Would you listen to Hitler's Preemptive War again? Why?
I probably wouldn't listen to "Hitler's Preemptive War" again . . . but, I would read a hard-copy edition.
What didn’t you like about Tom Parks’s performance?
Tom Parks would be a good narrator for a young adult novel, but lacked the "gravitas" for this material. His pronunciation of words (even English) was odd, idiosyncratic. His word emphasis was off-putting.
Any additional comments?
Very fine example of military history on the more-or-less "micro" level. Excellent research went into this book!
