Historia
War seethed across the planet. Machines soared through the air, churned through the seas, crawled across the surface, pushing ever forward, carrying death. Earth was engaged in titanic struggle. Germany, Russia, France, China, Japan: the maps were changing day by day. The hostilities spread in ever-widening ripples of destruction: Britain, Italy, Africa...the fate of the world hung in the balance. Then the real enemy came.

Amazing alternate history
Revisado: 12-02-23
This book would be a favorite of anyone who loves history, and also the potential what ifs. A refreshing departure from the typical alien invasion series where it’s usually a completely one sided affair. Turtledove did it incredible job researching these historical figures and putting them into believable considering the extenuating circumstances.

While President Roosevelt defends the US, the British Empire rallies to repel their alien foe again, and a young Winston Churchill helps to rally international forces. Not all the world sees the Martians as a threat, though; some see them as leverage against Britain. As the military tries to come up with solutions, the international arena takes the stage.

An excellent fourth addition to the series
Revisado: 11-18-23
The author does a fantastic job of writing the story in the mindset and times of someone in the 1910s. The story is very good at incorporating real life individuals and events into his stories that not only makes sense, but enhances it. I enjoyed the not yet Prime Minister version of Winston Churchill. His interpretation of how certain nations, religions and groups of people would react to certain situations was rather accurate.

A refreshing departure from the typical alien invasion theme
Revisado: 11-15-23
Most alien invasion movies, books, and TV shows involve a completely insurmountable opponent that can only be defeated by the hero or a single McGuffin. Conventional weapons are completely ineffective, and nothing works.
This series is not that. It depicts a conventional war between two opponents slugging it out in a war of attrition. Its got all the right details such as logistics, maintaining supply lines, production, the perpetual rapidly developing arms race during a war, and significant amounts of combat. My only complaint is that the books aren’t longer, and that there are only five books in the series so far. I think anyone who enjoys a significant amount of realism added into science fiction will enjoy this book greatly.

A fine end to an awesome series
Revisado: 11-06-23
I have always found the approach the Blackfeet series took interesting. Instead of having the big bad show up at the very end for a final legendary confrontation, the series gets that out-of-the-way in the first three books, and the subsequent two trilogys deals with the inevitable civilization changing fallout. An approach that I can appreciate, and that is not often explored in most science-fiction series.
It’s a shame it’s over but I’m glad I was here for the ride.

An excellent read for enjoyment of hypothetical military situation’s
Revisado: 10-09-23
Definitely a book for someone who likes Tom Clancy’s red storm rising. They are very similar in many ways, all good ones. I do have to say well while were very good about the details of many weapon systems. They got quite a few things wrong when it came to tanks, the T-14 Armata for example is not in service, it also has an uncrewed turret. German tanks don’t use 130mm cannons and Abrams tanks don’t throw their turrets. Although the first two can be forgiven, considering they were both planned to be in service at one point.

An excellent and much-needed modern look into the Alpha Legion and how it operates. It’s an interesting story that introduces equally interesting new characters that I hope will become reoccurring ones for years to come. The author managed to turn the ever divided and scheming alpha legion into a considerable cohesive threat again for the first time in ten millennia. Making them a relevant faction once again.
I eagerly await the sequel.

The fortress world of Regium has a proud history, For millennia, it has endured when others have fallen to ruin and damnation, standing defiant in defence of the Imperium of Man. Lieutenant Castamon of the Ultramarines recognises these signs of an impending Tyranid invasion all too well. Rallying his warriors, the battle-hardened veteran launches a strike force to slaughter the xenos in the outer system, before it can reach Regium.

Overall enjoyable read, narration could use improvement
Revisado: 07-01-23
Leviathan does a good job at establishing the Tyranids as the major enemy for 10th edition. They seem more dangerous and cunning. The narrator did a good job with space marines, but his voice for every baseline human was rather grating. Making most non-Marines sound like sniveling cowards, hirer pitch and shrill. Still worth of credit if you want to keep up with modern 40K lore.

Commander O’Shaserra, better known as Shadowsun, is an ice-cold military genius celebrated across the Chalnath Expanse. She is the master of the stealth battlesuit assault and the Kauyon metastrategy – a philosophy of war that emulates the Patient Hunter. But how to lay a trap for the Chaos-worshipping warriors of the Death Guard, whose ancient technology allows their fleet to rip holes in space? And how to deal with their daemonic patrons, who defy the laws of physics and shatter the logical methods that Shadowsun holds so dear?

A must for any fan of the Tau Empire
Revisado: 04-03-23
An enjoyable look into commander Shadowsun, and a progression for the overall story of the Tau Empire and their understanding of the warp. I would advise first reading both Farsight novels as there is some valuable context to parts of the story, but this book can be read on its own without any real issue. Helen McAlpine does an excellent job for female characters, some of the male voices take a bit of getting used to, but it does not distract from the quality of the story or the audiobook itself.
