Historia
In Toxic Empathy, Allie Beth Stuckey argues that empathy has become a tool of manipulation by left-wing activists who bully people into believing that they must adopt progressive positions to be loving. She explores the five most heated issues through which toxic empathy is deployed: abortion, gender, sexuality, immigration, and social justice. Progressives use catchy mantras to present their perspective as empathetic, like “abortion is healthcare,” “love is love,” or “no human being is illegal,” but in each case, they ignore the other side of the moral equation.

Solid
Revisado: 10-21-24
Grateful for Allie Beth Stuckey's bold stance and the references to her solid foundation. Although I am more accustomed to hearing her speak more conversationally, her narration was still pleasant and enjoyable (although it was clear she was reading her work).

MAGNIFICENT performance-a definite listen
Revisado: 08-12-24
Meryl's performance was exquisite. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, but I am certain my enjoyment was heightened by her characterization, occasional laughter and the smile in her voice. What a lovely story.

Historia
Lily and her ex-husband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil coparenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date. So. Well. Done.
Revisado: 08-04-24
Confession: I have owned this book for a couple of years and only just made reading it a priority. I am SO glad I read it. What a beautifully written story with an ending (& epilogue) that was truly satisfying. Moving right on to the next book and will eagerly await the movie. Well worth the time to read this one (although I did so with ear buds...with children around, this subject matter was poignant and candid).

The author/narrator is fantastic!
Revisado: 08-01-24
I have read every one of CS's novels and devoured them. Unfortunately, this one fell a bit flat for me. Character development might have caused the reader to feel more invested. The premise of the story itself was a reach...perhaps if there had been more traces of Nina's father in the house? And I would have liked a bit more development of Joe & Nina's relationship, so the conclusion packed a bit more punch. I enjoyed the book and would still recommend it, even though it was not my favorite of CS's work. But I can also strongly recommend if you're going to purchase this one, go with the audio book. CS's artistic ability and mellifluous voice and timbre are a delight.

Revisado: 03-15-24
I've enjoyed several other books by Emily G, but when I saw Orlagh Cassidy was the narrator, I instantly chose this book. Not ever disappointed by her talent. The story lost one star for me bc the ending wasn't tied up in a neat bow, like I had hoped.

Heartbreaking story of addiction & a search for significance, but a powerful conclusion to his story. One can hope his last moments included some of the same thoughts, memories, gratitude & peace he described in the last 45 min of the book.
Rest well, Matthew. May your truthful transparency bring hope to many others who battle the same big, terrible thing.
