Historia
Make sure the kids aren’t around! Just because you’re a grown-up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the art of the children’s bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 12 short stories written in the style of a classic kids' tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach. What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. And much more!

Best way to learn a language
Revisado: 04-21-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Spanish Level 5 to be better than the print version?
Listening and speaking is the way to learn a language. You can conjugate verbs forever and never learn how to use them in conversation. This system makes you think and then speak. Then you get to hear a Spanish native speaker say it correctly. I know nothing else as good as this program.
What about Pimsleur’s performance did you like?
native language speakers

Historia
Turning her back on her privileged life in Victorian England, Gertrude Bell (1868-1926), fired by her innate curiosity, journeyed the world and became fascinated with all things Arab. Traveling the length and breadth of the Arab region, armed with a love for its language and its people, she not only produced several enormously popular books based on her experiences but became instrumental to the British foreign office. When World War I erupted, and the British needed the loyalty of the Arab leaders, it was Gertrude Bell's work and connections that helped provided the brain for T. E. Lawrence's military brawn.

Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

An important insight
Revisado: 12-03-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
We are all aware of the Jim Crow laws and the plight of the blacks but this book puts literal teeth into the horrors of slave treatment after emancipation. It traces the lives of various slaves as they find life in the south unbearable and dangerous and thus migrate to the north. I had no idea the numbers were in the millions. An important read.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Each of the characters has such a unique perspective I cannot choose one. I learned something new from each of them.
Which scene was your favorite?
I found the scenes from the railroad conductor particularly moving.

Stupid story line
Revisado: 12-03-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If this book had even a moment of reality I would have given it at least 2 stars. It is so far fetched and ridiculous I couldn't even finish it. I would call it an insult to intelligence.
Would you ever listen to anything by Mark Greaney again?
No

As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Revisado: 08-17-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Not much keeps the reader excited and moving forward.
What was most disappointing about Tana French’s story?
Great prose and writing but it has no tension.
What about Steven Crossley’s performance did you like?
He is a real pro. Wonderful character voices. If he were not reading this tedious book I would never have continued.
Do you think In the Woods needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Don't bore me more.

But, besieged by pilgrims in desperate need of her healing powers, and pursued by assassins, she has no choice but to flee the borderlands and embark on an extraordinary journey into the heart of turn-of-the-century America.

Urrea does it again
Revisado: 04-01-13
What did you love best about Queen of America?
I loved Urrea's narration. He is a funny and animated reader and of course since he wrote the book, all the little nuances are included in the reading. His love of his characters comes through in his voice.
The book itself is a description of a part of Mexico few know about. It's an important work to describe people that have been stereotyped. We see the real lives of real individuals. How people living in abject poverty still have dignity, generosity and determination.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was particularly moved when the struggling kids where rescued by a couple that lived in an abandoned dump. Funny delightful people that had next to nothing and yet were willing to share the little they had.
