Historia
Mountain search-and-rescue volunteer Bree Loewen's to-do list isn't quite the same as most people's. A former Mount Rainier climbing ranger and trained leader in mountain search-and-rescue, Bree shares the drama and the camaraderie of this work, as well as the challenges of trying to fit her other roles as wife and mother into what is still largely a masculine environment. In a fearless voice - disarming yet laced with dark humor - Bree guides us through intense recoveries, vivid wilderness landscapes, and the warmth she discovers in motherhood, community, and purpose.

I enjoyed the many stories that comprised mountain SAR. Occasionally the narrator sounded so self deprecating & confused that it lost some continuity.

I really enjoyed the story line. It was fast paced & tied up some of the continuing story from previous book. The narrator’s performance was better but that may have been not having to produce a southern accent throughout this reading.

I enjoyed the story. It was fast paced & the characters were well developed. The plot was twisted. This narrator was not a good choice. If this hadn’t been included in my Audible membership I wouldn’t waste my time on the rest of the series.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life - a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

This was a wonderfully written story. I loved the explanations of observing the dogs. Spot on with dog etiquette & dealing with their humans. Kept you on edge while hunting the killer. Loved the romance between Fiona & Simon.

The wild side of life
Revisado: 12-12-22
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I learned a few things. The episode where the guide got hypothermic was quite enlightening. As a healthcare professional working in an ER I know clinically what happens so his description of him digging & the paradoxical heat flush, the confusion was so descriptive that I now understand this on a visceral level.

As she did so provocatively with military spouses in Army Wives, Tanya Biank gives us the inside story of women in today’s military - their professional and personal challenges from the combat zone to the home front. Since 9/11, more than 240,000 women have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan - more than 140 have died there, and they currently make up 14 percent of the total active-duty forces. Despite advances, today’s servicewomen are constantly pressed to prove themselves.

Historia
You cannot bounce back from hardship. You can only move through it. There is a path through pain to wisdom, through suffering to strength, and through fear to courage if we have the virtue of resilience. In 2012, Eric Greitens unexpectedly heard from a former SEAL comrade, a brother-in-arms he hadn’t seen in a decade. Zach Walker had been one of the toughest of the tough. But ever since he returned home from war to his young family in a small logging town, he’d been struggling. Without a sense of purpose, plagued by PTSD, and masking his pain with heavy drinking, he needed help. Zach and Eric started writing and talking nearly every day, as Eric set down his thoughts on what it takes to build resilience in our lives.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Eric did a great job narrating his book. It’s obvious that he is extremely well read. I loved the letter writing format. I don’t know if he has anything else in books because I would definitely read it. I’m thinking about getting a print copy of this one. I feel like I need to take notes. Definitely going to listen this again.

Poignant stories
Revisado: 03-10-21
This was a collection of stories or recollections that gave the reader insight into what makes our warriors & their families. I appreciated the vulnerability that some of the stories displayed. These stories were from multiple points of view; first hand, parents, friends. The narrator did an awesome & believable job. Made me laugh, cry & feel outrage on their behalf. Well done!

Thank you for sharing part of you
Revisado: 12-21-20
First of all, thank you for your service & care Mark.
This was a written empathetic explanation of the resulting struggle faced by many of our veterans & their families. Following you through each phase in your growth in military service allowed the reader a glimpse into your world in active duty. I especially enjoyed the final chapter interview because that is really the backbone of medicine. The most important quality “care”, nailed it. I’m a retired ER / ICU nurse.
