Poor reader ruins a good story.
Revisado: 05-03-21
The worst reader I have encountered after listening to over two thousand audiobooks. The pauses in the middle of a word, and the myriad mispronunciations of words and common names made it very difficult to persevere to the end.

Good writer, poor narration
Revisado: 11-10-16
The content of this book is very interesting and not often covered in other Revolutionary War books. The author writes compellingly and keeps it interesting; however, his narration leaves a lot to be desired. Cadence and timing are off, making it sound like he's in a great hurry and always out of breath. Fortunately, the subject matter is interesting enough to overcome those drawbacks.

What fun!
Revisado: 04-18-16
Not great literature maybe, but the characters were engaging and intelligent. The plot was complicated enough to keep me guessing. You will need a decent vocabulary too, which is refreshing.

Marginal plot
Revisado: 12-19-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The plot is very thin and the romance unappealing. The hero is an annoying wimp. The reader rises above it as much as possible, but unless you are into gay romantic comedy, don't waste your credit.
What could Josh Lanyon have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Spend more time on plot and less on the unconvincing romance.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
Appealing characters

A cerebral mystery
Revisado: 08-28-12
This mystery and its predecessor are great fun if you like historical fiction, unusual methods of murder/mayhem, and an intelligent hero. You'll figure out whodunit before the hero, but he's probably more naive than you are, and a scientist rather than a detective. I like the arcane vignettes into what it was like when electricity was still something of a novelty. There's just enough electrical theory to make it understandable without descending into technical jargon that bores rather than enlightens. The reader doesn't get in the way of the story. His accents are different enough you can discern the characters, but not so broad as to be difficult to understand.

Great story, terrible reader

This is one of my favorite books, but I was unable to listen to more than 3 chapters because of the wooden, pedantic, monotone voice of the narrator. I hope in the future he will only be narrating economics books.
