Writer Tao Fangxuan compiled a series of essays covering his/her travels through Western Hunan. It is a lovely collection about how beautiful Western Hunan is: its mysterious tradition, curious legends, magnificent scenery, charming people.... and all weaved into the works of Shen CongWen.
The book is still wonderful, while narration is seriously lacking. Frankly, it is rather dull (emotionless) and felt almost amateurish.
I can imagine how much more a better narration can bring more excitement and life into the book, making it even more engrossing.
Nonetheless, a wonderful wonderful essays collection.
