A Sister of the Dark captures Richard and takes him deep into the Old World, to the very heart of the Order, while his beloved Kahlan remains behind. Free because of Richard's sacrifice for her, but unwilling to abandon the cause of the Midlands, Kahlan violates not only prophecy but her last pledge to Richard and raises an army against the advancing horde of the Imperial Order.

A Book That Stays With You
Revisado: 10-14-23
Many fans consider Faith of the Fallen the best book in the series, and I tend to agree. In this installment, Richard is captured by Nicci, a Sister of the Dark, who seeks answers she cannot yet define. She takes him to the heart of the Imperial Order’s capital, a society built on socialist ideals where they are expected to live ordinary lives. What follows is a powerful journey of resilience, determination, and the unyielding strength of the human spirit.
Richard’s story is deeply inspiring, showcasing his unwavering resolve and belief in individual freedom. While some readers may take issue with the book’s social commentary, it remains a thought-provoking exploration of real-world struggles that feel more relevant than ever. This book also delivers the most iconic quote of the series: “Your life is yours alone. Rise up and live it.” By the time you turn the final page, you’ll feel motivated to become the best version of yourself.

Historia
This is the powerful, untold story of two of the three members of Silverchair, Australia's most awarded musical act. From their beginnings in Ben Gillies' garage, this trio of high school kids from Newcastle, New South Wales, became famous with their smash-hit single 'Tomorrow', setting them on a path to domination of the Australian charts, worldwide touring and fame. So much has been written about Silverchair over the years but very little has been said by the band's members.

Frogs & Llamas
Revisado: 10-07-23
Silverchair were one of Australia's most successful alternative rock bands. When the band quit in 2011, many of us were devastated as we were expecting a new album instead! Ben & Chris tell their side of the story and give answers to the burning questions we all have had for years. They openly talk about child stardom, mental illness, addictions, and their complicated relationship with Daniel Johns.
Ben & Chris are both happily married fathers now and have a new outlook on life. I consider myself a hardcore fan and was absolutely shocked to read about the difficulties Chris had gone through after the band. I also did not know about Ben's personal struggles he had to overcome. Their perseverance and strength through their family, kids, and friends was very inspiring.
I loved that they narrated this book themselves. It was a fantastic listen I could not put down. Be forewarned it is not read in chronological order. It weaves between eras which may be confusing to some listeners. If you can find it, I recommend watching the documentary that correlates with this book. Is this closure or is the story not over yet? Only time will tell.

Doom Guy: Life in First Person is the long-awaited autobiography of gaming’s original rock star and the cocreator of DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein—some of the most recognizable and important titles in video game history. Credited with the invention of the first-person shooter, a genre that continues to dominate the market today, he is gaming royalty. Told in remarkable detail, a byproduct of his hyperthymesia, Romero recounts his storied career.

Gaming's Rock Star
Revisado: 08-13-23
Like a lot of id games, I could not put this down! Romero goes through his rough up bringing that will leave you in tears, to his passion on computer games that will inspire you. Instead of just hitting the successes, he goes into all of the challenges and failures he overcame and the lessons learned. Hard work to an obsessive degree and an unwavering desire to learn propelled him to create some of the greatest games of all time. There is something to say about having like-minded people around and the early id software team was lightning in a bottle which changed the FPS genre forever and made them icons. Masters of Doom is one of my favorite books on gaming, but this one is written and narrated by Romero himself. He focuses on the positive and sets the record straight. After finishing, I immediately wanted to hit reset and start all over again.

Revisado: 05-17-22
Inspiring book that goes through Reggie's humble beginnings to his rise as the President of Nintendo of America and beyond. In each section he provides a lesson in leadership. You will be surprised by all of the notable companies he worked for before Nintendo. The thing I admired most is his fearlessness to keep moving forward! He had plenty opportunities to play it safe throughout his career, but as the title states he enjoys disrupting. He keeps the message positive throughout and even during difficulties he focuses on the lessons learned. I am a life-long gamer and listening to his relationship with Iwata and Miyamoto was a highlight. You will also hear more on the great memes he gave us over the years. As a bonus there is an interview with Geoff Keighley at the end.

Historia
The Ogallala aquifer has nourished life on the American Great Plains for millennia. But less than a century of unsustainable irrigation farming has taxed much of the aquifer beyond repair. The imminent depletion of the Ogallala and other aquifers around the world is a defining planetary crisis of our times. Running Out offers a uniquely personal account of aquifer depletion and the deeper layers through which it gains meaning and force.

Aquifer Depletion
Revisado: 03-09-22
Engaging story where the author reconciles with his estranged father to go on an investigation of aquifer depletion in southwestern Kansas. It is wonderfully written where you feel like you are along for the ride with them in the Great Plains. The information they uncover digs deep not only in the community and system at large, but is also part of their family history.

Historia
A mesmerizing, behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary and a team of rebels, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video-game industry. In 1990, Nintendo had a virtual monopoly on the video-game industry. Sega, on the other hand, was just a faltering arcade company with big aspirations and even bigger personalities. But all that would change with the arrival of Tom Kalinske, a former Mattel executive who knew nothing about video games and everything about fighting uphill battles.

Blast From The Past
Revisado: 09-15-21
Listening to this book transports you to the 1990s in the middle of the Nintendo vs Sega console war. I especially enjoyed it since I grew up in that era and remember many of the classic commercials and marketing Sega put out back then. The book focuses on Tom Kalinske, the head of Sega of America. It is an underdog story and his challenges turning the Sega Genesis into a huge success in the US market. Even if you are a big Nintendo fan like me, you can't help but to root for Sega at times. I thought the book would be mostly about Sega trying to beat Nintendo, but I didn't expect all the other difficulties they had to face. Conflicts with Sega of Japan, resistance from retailers, and even the beginnings of Sony PSX are just as formidable.

When Samurai Meet the Wild West
Revisado: 03-08-21
Cloud of Sparrows is one of my all-time favorite books to revisit. Set during the twilight of the samurai era, it weaves a gripping tale of honor, prophecy, and cultural collision. Lord Genji, a nobleman gifted with prophetic visions, foresees that a foreigner will one day save his life. When a group of American missionaries arrives in Japan as his guests, their presence sets the stage for an epic clash of destinies. Among them is Matthew Stark, a relentless hunter pursuing an outlaw who fled to Japan, and Emily Gibson, a woman desperate to escape the shadows of her past.
This novel delivers an exhilarating blend of samurai drama and Wild West grit, filled with vibrant characters, political intrigue, and shocking twists that keep you hooked from start to finish. If you love historical fiction with action, depth, and surprises at every turn, Cloud of Sparrows is a must-read.

Charge!
Revisado: 10-09-20
Rhinoceros Success has had a profound impact on my life. Its message is simple yet incredibly effective—keep charging forward, no matter what obstacles stand in your way. The book serves as a constant source of motivation, and I find myself returning to it several times a year, especially when I notice myself slipping into lazy “cow” tendencies. It’s a great reminder to stay focused, push through challenges, and take action toward goals. Whether you need a spark of inspiration or a complete mindset shift, this book is a must-read for anyone looking to break free from complacency and charge full speed ahead.
