Historia
On the evening of July 25, 1965, Bob Dylan took the stage at Newport Folk Festival, backed by an electric band, and roared into his new rock hit, "Like a Rolling Stone". The audience of committed folk purists and political activists who had hailed him as their acoustic prophet reacted with a mix of shock, booing, and scattered cheers. It was the shot heard round the world - Dylan's declaration of musical independence, the end of the folk revival, and the birth of rock as the voice of a generation - and one of the defining moments in 20th-century music.

Talks about everyone, and sometimes about Dylan
Revisado: 02-12-25
I saw the movie in which this book was the inspiration for "A Complete Unknown!". The movie covers the period of time in which Dylan came to light for everyone. However, if one didn't read the title, you won't know whom the story is about. Pete Seeger is mentioned, Peter, Paul, and Mary are mentioned. Joan Baez is mentioned often. Odetta shows up from time to time to time. Kingston Tri are immortalized. Ewan McColl is brought up a time or three. Even this young guy from Hibbing, Minnesota has the spot light on him, once in a while.
This books covers all these performers many times, but doesn't highlight only one. You might think they are the main topic.
Overall, if you're looking for a book that reflects the movie "A Complete Unknown!" this is not that book. Enjoy

Why is the narrator whispering?
Revisado: 10-31-24
I typically love to listen to book while I drive. It helps pass the time of a trip and I often find myself sitting in the truck for a few minutes longer once I arrive, just to finish a chapter or thought. Yet when I tried to listen to the second story, The narrator kept on whispering. I assume he was doing this for dramatic affect. I had the radio turned all the way up along with the volume on my phone. When he wasn't whispering, he was so loud it hurt.
So, if you can listen to this with noise cancelling headphone and are sitting in a easy chair next to the fireplace.... then you might enjoy this book. I'd love to return it... but Audible doesn't allow that.

Historia
Our ability to prevent and reverse these conditions—and feel incredible today—is under our control and simpler than we think. The key is our metabolic function—the most important and least understood factor in our overall health. As Dr. Casey Means explains in this book, nearly every health problem we face can be explained by how well the cells in our body create and use energy. To live free from frustrating symptoms and life-threatening disease, we need our cells to be optimally powered so that they can create “good energy,” the essential fuel that impacts every aspect of our wellbeing.

I was being yelled at!
Revisado: 10-23-24
This book was selected for our men's group. I was the only one that listened to it, as I typically do, (thanks Audible). Through out the book, I felt that I was being yelled at for just being alive. If I was to "change" and follow her directions, I might live longer, but at what expense? Happiness, comfort, well being? She harped on eating organically, which is great for those who can afford it, or have access to it, but maybe a message of mixing in or adding it into your diet as you can would have been a more realistic approach.
THE ONE THING THAT WAS BROUGHT UP THAT MADE THE MOST SENSE, AS WITH MOST THINGS IN LIFE, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. ORGANIC, GRASS FEED, FREE RANGE FOOD IS BETTER FOR US, AND THE COST OF PROCESSED FOOD, IN THE LONG RUN, WILL BE THE SAME COST WITH RESPECT TO MEDICAL FEES, TAXES AND SUBSIDIES. This was a interesting point.
Last comment on the book, of the 8 men that were to read this book, only the person providing the book for review and myself read the book. I think the tone of the book turned them off.

Describes a prefect way to eat In Italy
Revisado: 10-25-22
I am a food junky, and this book helps me fill my palate with everything Italian. Cooking that is. It helps explain that a recipe can change from the region to region, or town to town or even house to house. I can just imagine sitting a table full of grandmothers at a wedding or family reunion and ask, "how do I make.... (Insert dish) and watch the table explode with differences and flare.
I would love to drive and eat my way through Italy because of this book. Skillet

Not your fathers story
Revisado: 06-09-22
This is in the mountain man series, with Preacher in the lead role, but it is not written very well. To much minor detail and the language doesn’t seem to fit. Example, the Indian says that the number of braves are “thin” which he really means, they don’t have many left. This word “thin” probably won’t be used by someone new to that language.
Also, the author seems to get stuck in detailing every minor detail at the least opportune time. Maybe they are trying to fill pages.
There are many other books in this series we’ll worth the listen, but not this title.

Good book about the 50’s
Revisado: 07-09-21
I found myself laughing out a couple of times. I was driving through my mom’s home town and was listening about the pot luck dinners. I was immediately taken back to my childhood. “You always left room for desserts, they were just as good as the main course dish, just without meat.”

How many rapids can one guy take

Great memories when we first read it.
Revisado: 05-17-21
I would have enjoyed the full story verse the abridged, but the essence still comes through.
A woman and me first read this book aloud to each years ago in the San Francisco Bay area. We have often talk about it, smiling about that time.
Now, I have re-lived those times as I listen to this story.
It a great book to share with you best guy or girl!

Book Club was right
Revisado: 10-02-20
I’m in a book club and thus far every book has been great. Edward Herman really brings to life the story of The Boys in the Boat.
It’s a very well presented book with enough locations in it that make you search Google maps for these locations, so you can follow along.
I high recommend this book and I’m sure I’ll listen to it again.
