Historia
When the over-driven hyperdrive on their mobile shipyard burned out, the Chhrt'ktk't abandoned it in an inhabited system along their path, hoping it would work as a decoy to buy them more time to escape the Khreetan fleet pursuing them. They didn't anticipate how far the pre-spacefaring species they turned over their broken-down maintenance facility to would subvert their plan.

there is a saying "show, don't tell". This book mostly ignores that to some extent. If you want to go deep into world building befire the actual story, this is for you

Historia
Team Yankee, the New York Times best-seller by Harold Coyle, presents a glimpse of what it would have been like for the soldiers who would have had to meet the relentless onslaught of Soviet and Warsaw Pact divisions. Using the geo-political and military scenarios described by General Sir John Hackett, former NORTHAG commander and author of World War Three; August 1985, Team Yankee follows the war as seen from the turret of Captain Sean Bannon's tank.

Good from a Technical point, weak on plot
Revisado: 02-09-24
I really liked the military-technical aspects of this book. It is incredibly realistic and strong on that front, some friends have said this book even changed their lives, so that's why I decided to check it out. And although it's a very vivid tank battle book, it's just that. The dialogues are good and even taking into account the enemy's perspective was fun to see. I somehow felt something was missing from the book.

WWIII wasn’t what any of the analysts expected. Across the globe, battles raged. Taiwan fell. Fighting continued in the Caribbean and South America. The Russian Far East had invaders, and nobody seemed able to stop this new Red Army. With the world in chaos, it was hard to unravel the pieces.

Slow, biased and somewhat predictable
Revisado: 02-07-22
Although Storytelling has improved and the books are now more digestable, one of the most important characters JD is only mentioned briefly. On another note developments are always led by the U.S. (the rest of the world in a global thrid world war, is just along for the ride) in the case of Venezuela, Colombia or Brasil for example, the author clearly didn't do his homework. True, a full on Invasion would most likely be launched from Colombia, but it doesn't take into account that Brasil wouldn't just stand-by or that Colombia's armed forces are hard-core battle-tested veterans in jungle warfare who have defeated in international contests, special forces from other countries, are almost half a million strong and are a Vietnam Case Study of how to defeat an insurgent army. But in the case of the book, they are relegated to the equivalent of "Guard Duty" who have to be accompanied by U.S. special forces because "americans are better killers". That's like telling an Israeli IDF soldier "Hold my beer while I teach you urban warfare", telling a Finn that they're winter warfare capabilities are irrelevant or ignoring an indian high altitude mountain brigade, believing a U.S. soldiers can do better than them (Sorry, but some units around the world are equivalent or better killers in their specialty). For example, the French Foreign Legion is seen with awe by americans, but not British SAS who have an insane level of Jungle preparation in Belize. In summary, I will continue to listen to the rest of the series, but I expect a higher level of research from the authors. Their ignorance of some military facts can affect the listener experience.

Historia
Sci-fi's favorite antisocial AI is back on a mission. The case against the too-big-to-fail GrayCris Corporation is floundering, and more importantly, authorities are beginning to ask more questions about where Dr. Mensah's SecUnit is. And Murderbot would rather those questions went away. For good. Martha Wells' Rogue Protocol is the third in the Murderbot Diaries series, starring a humanlike android who keeps getting sucked back into adventure after adventure, though it just wants to be left alone, away from humanity and small talk.

TOO SHORT
Revisado: 12-23-21
These stories are OK, but they're too short (1/3 or 1/4 of a regular Novel) and should be put in an omnibus. Only people with the means, will be able to invest to go through the series

Historia
Camp One has one brutal rule: If you attempt to escape, you die - and three random prisoners die with you. Tom Thrush has resigned himself to dying by degrees, doing forced labor while he slowly starves. When he learns that a distant mesa holds a slim chance at freedom, he does nothing. The price of escape is too high. Then fever sweeps through the camp. Surrounded by armed guards and an unforgiving jungle, paralyzed by the threat of reprisals, Tom watches as the men he’s sworn to protect die one by one. If anyone is to survive, Tom will have to do the unthinkable. Escape.

Jake Elwood has outdone himself, excellent book
Revisado: 09-20-21
I loved this book! as Military Sci-fi genre stands, this is one of the best books I've read (In the case of the Audiobook version, the performance is impecable)
The Author crafts a compelling story with intricate and interesting characters that give this book a voice of it's own. The dialogues are the best I've seen him write. I admit I've been very critical with this author in the past, but I take it all back as I finish this piece. I believe he has found his voice, or the setting his stories are best suited for.
In short, this book is so good, it has been worth to follow the series up until this volume, and I look forward to what the author will write in the future.

Good potential, Don't read if you have physics OCD
Revisado: 09-12-21
PROS
*Certain elements of officer training were interesting, I also like how the author manages to engage you with "showing and not necessarily telling how to infer something has occured"
* Character arch" seems promising
* Traits of an interesting and rich Universe
* The ending is interesting
CONS
* The book takes a lot to take off. some parts can be very dull
* Plot holes
*Needs supporting character development
* Does not have a good handle on physics or military know-how
* Really bad physics (yes that bad)
* Very long contextual descriptions
* Protagonist gets saved by dumb luck and not by witt
* "Fire crews" and nod not engineer damage control crews respond to combat damage
NARRATOR:
no objections, good performance
Will continue to the other books out of curiosity

Historia
Hausos is a peaceful farming colony. Once controlled by the Tahni, it's now settled by a collection of homeless refugees and war veterans, among them Cam and Vicky. Their life is pleasantly boring, quiet enough for demons from the war to nag at the corners of Cam’s mind on lonely nights. He fights the demons back with willpower and alcohol, determined to make this place home. But the peace doesn’t last.
