Amazing book.
Revisado: 01-01-20
A fictionalized account of a true horror story. An important lesson to us all that for evil to preside, all good people must do is to remain silent.

On a hot July night on Cape Cod when Adrienne was 14, her mother, Malabar, woke her at midnight with five simple words that would set the course of both of their lives for years to come: Ben Souther just kissed me. Adrienne instantly became her mother’s confidante and helpmate, blossoming in the sudden light of her attention, and from then on, Malabar came to rely on her daughter to help orchestrate what would become an epic affair with her husband’s closest friend.

Where the heaviness of life meets a road of poetic language giving us all a way to move to the light...

Where the heaviness of life meets a road of poetic language giving us all a way to move to the light...
You will want to put it down ... or to turn it off ... but you can’t. You will want to list the quotes that move you ... but you won’t have time to transcribe this entire tribute to the life the author survives held to the light of the life she was meant to live.
Like all exemplary works of literature, this journey through new words and a new language carved from within a language you thought you knew ... will leave you depleted and full at that same time. The narration of this tragedy is gripping. And while a best friend and I listened, almost without interruption, gasping and sometimes laughing at the outrageousness of it all, it was the last words of the dedication that caused me to burst into tears.
Stop what you are doing and download Wild Game. There are broken pieces of all of us layered into these exquisitely written pages. Adrienne was just brave enough to write this for each of us who need to be healed. With love and admiration, Lorraine Salmon.

Historia
Like millions of women, Eve Ensler has been waiting much of her lifetime for an apology. Sexually and physically abused by her father, Eve has struggled her whole life from this betrayal, longing for an honest reckoning from a man who is long dead. After years of work as an anti-violence activist, she decided she would wait no longer; an apology could be imagined, by her, for her, to her.

Horrific. Necessary. An understanding of sexual abuse
Revisado: 09-20-19
I wondered if I could keep listening. I wondered if I could stop listening. I thought, how could any one do this.? How can anyone survive this? Then, knowing how many precious among us have been carrying around this sexual damage, inflicted upon them, how can we not listen to Eve, brave Eve who shares for each person hurt, so that we all might understand the once permanent results of the horrific trauma and the possibility of an apology, real or imagined, that holds the power of release, renewal, and the ability to reach for what was always yours, the cherishing if your own self. In awe.

Historia
Looking to some of the world's greatest thinkers and inspiring leaders, Brooks explores how, through internal struggle and a sense of their own limitations, they have built a strong inner character. Labor activist Frances Perkins understood the need to suppress parts of herself so that she could be an instrument in a larger cause. Dwight Eisenhower organized his life not around impulsive self-expression but considered self-restraint.

Awesome Trip through History and Character
Revisado: 10-12-18
I’ve heard David Brooks give keynotes on a number of occasions. Don’t miss him! I thoroughly enjoyed the details and stories of The Road to Character as David evidenced his own view of character one person and one chapter at a time. Great read.

Drop Everything, Read!
Revisado: 12-17-17
I recommend this book to anyone. Period.
But most especially, anyone dealing with loss, trauma, aging, youth. Anyone looking for perspective. A Three Dog Life will give you an open door into a place where your own perspective can be heard, by you. It’s a place of forgiveness, judgement, despair and joy. It’s a rollercoaster. It’s life. It’s amazing. Sometimes I play it one more time, just to hear Abby’s voice ... just to know ... that I didn’t know ... what I knew all along.

Fantastic book with an upsetting reminder we have much to do
Revisado: 11-14-17
Michelle Kuo gives us personal a view into a frightening reality ... one that civil rights in America has not yet righted ... one we’d like to think didn’t exist. Haunting. Loved it. But it’s haunting me.
Strongly recommend this read.

Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.
