The Yellowstone super-eruption has put an end to modern civilization. As cities and countries continue to fall, the colony of Rivendell in the alternate Earth known as Outland looks more and more like the only real hope for humanity. cool concept and good naration.
but why do all the bad guys have to be angry straight white men, or retarted straight white men, or ass hole straight white men? but all the women are heroes who act like men. it must be written by a guy who got beaten up a lot as a kid and white knights for women.

Kaz Wolfe has everything he needs to prevent a Convergence that would allow gods and monsters from the Nether to invade our world. Everything, other than a single clue about what a Convergence is. Or how it works. Or how to stop it. To get answers, he might have to take a fun-filled family road trip to the last place he wants to go: the Netherworld.

Pattern Recognition
Revisado: 08-14-24
I had a friend stop reading the Expeditionary Force books because he said the author was to formulaic. I didn't understand it at the time. He said the author just has the same formula that he uses over and over again for every book. I see it now.
We have a group of caricatures, not characters. Everyone has a single character trait. Instead of fleshing out our, air quotes, characters, he introduces two new ones that are just caricatures. And right in the middle of the book when you think things are about to get interesting and maybe one of these, air quote, characters will die and mix things up, it's just a prank.
The mystery so far is enough to make me want to buy book 5, but if things don't drastically change I won't be buying book 6.

Silas is inducted into the System, becoming the last in a long line of Earth's "forerunners." The rewards are great, but the danger is greater. We are not alone in the universe. The fate of five worlds hangs on how their forerunners perform. Will Silas have what it takes to win Earth a place in the multiverse? Or will Earth become another mining world stripped of all resources and left a barren husk floating in the cosmos?

Time will tell
Revisado: 04-18-24
I like the premise and the system. Lots of potential here.
Travis Baldree is consistent as gravity.
My only complaint is the two female forerunners. Their bigotry towards men, disrespect of Silas, and constant sh*t tests make them unlikable. I hope this is intentional by the author so he can have them grow as characters. It would suck if he was just using them as mouthpieces to virtue signal and they never change.
I'll be picking up book two for sure.

The Aftermath of a stunning victory—especially an unexpected, complete, and final victory—should be high-fives all around, listening to politicians give boring congratulatory speeches, and a well-deserved rest for the Merry Band of Pirates. Yes, the galaxy is still a freakin' mess, but that is nothing new, and for a change, that can be someone else's problem. Until, you know, something really bad happens, and only the Pirates can deal with the problem... Or not.

*Yawn*
Revisado: 05-17-22
To start let me say, I hold made it 9 hours. So if you don't care about a review from someone who didn't finish, there's your heads up.
So this author clearly wanted to write a new series after book 3, but didn't want to start a new fan base. First 3 books were great. Cool setting, characters, and adventure. Then he wanted to write a story Game of Thrones style with factions, families, and politics. The problem is all of it is so lazy and one dimensional. The new character are all so cliche. I could get over all of that, flat characters or plots are not a deal breaker for me. I said in my review of book 4 that I was in it for the moments where Jason melts someones face because they have it coming and that I would be out if it ever stopped. Well 9 hours in and all its been is "bla bla, politics, bla bla factions, bla bla self loathing." It's so boring, for me. If that's your thing then have at it.
I will continue to recommend the first 3 books as solid Litrpg. But at the end of book 3 best to just assume Jason dies saving the people who really cared about him, his new family, like a hero. Great ending to a great story.

"We're in the wrong damn universe."
Revisado: 01-14-22
You took the words right out of my mouth, Fara.
Don't cry to me about spoilers. Cry to whoever approved the cover art.
Jason is Shallow and Destructive. That's not a dig! Personally, I love it. A dude who has been run over by the bus of life (and look it's backing up!) gets powers. It's a power fantasy, pure and simple. I'm here for those "YOU CALLED DOWN THE THUNDER, WELL NOW YOU GOT IT!" moments. And there are plenty in this book. I hope he stays this way. There are some discussions in this story that make me feel he won't. God, I hope we don't get another Great Powers, Great Responsibility character arc. "There is a price for transgressing against me. How many of you are willing to pay it?" That's the Jason I'll stick around for.
The characters, and world, in this book aren't as full and fleshed out as in the other 3 books. That's one, of the two, reasons I think some of the reviews are as bad as they are. It comes around at the end, I think. This was an interesting interlude that added new plot points and details to the bus backing over Jason.
That second thing, is the politics. I get some people are super pissed. It didn't really bother me much. It's a fantasy world and the Author can have his character think, believe, and do whatever they what. There are just as many pop-culture, 80's, and Cooking references as there were Political references. Were those Political references virtue signaling to the anti-west anti-white Twitter/Reddit crowd? Yep. But as I said above, Jason is Shallow and Destructive. Why would you expect his politics to be any different? That, was a dig.
Finally, the narrator. New for me. Never heard him before, but really enjoyed it. His American Shadow Government Agent accent was such a shock. He really nailed it. So much so, I gave him back the star that I took for pronouncing Tiger, Tie-Ka. lol.

Historia
The manhunt has officially begun. Now the target of a game-wide Holy War, Ned is forced to flee the Onyx Sands. The odds are stacked against him; Tyrann has tens of thousands of followers, a religion that’s spreading like wildfire, and a powerful god that will be stepping into the world of EBO in a matter of days. Meanwhile, Ned’s allies are a squirrel-exploding bard, a repurposed home security system who takes her instructions far too literally, and a wildly unreliable talking axe named Frank. But even as the inevitable conflict draws closer, change is coming to EBO.

Solid Book 2.
Revisado: 10-22-21
I'm reallying enjoying this series. Looking forward to the next adventure and the changes it brings to the world. The characters and the bonds they are forming are my favorite thing.
Travis nails the narration, but that's no surprise. I like his other work too.
I do have two small, very small, critiques.
1. The banter between House, Frank, and Ned can get a little repetitive. House doesn't understand, Frank mocks her, Ned plays peace keeper. It doesn't happen a lot and the scenes are short. I just wish they'd have more complex interaction.
2. Ned's reluctance to let others take risks shows his lack of leadership. And that's totally fine. It's Book 2, not 20. But I hope he starts to trust his people more in the future and we don't continue to get the "No! It's too dangerous for you to come along. I'll do it myself." attitude.

Feels like filler...
Revisado: 05-13-21
It's well written and Nick is amazing as always, but this feels mostly like filler. Much like the main character the author only seems able to ask questions, but seems incapable of answering any. I mean we are 3, 5, 8 books in (depending if you've read the other series) and all we have is questions. All this book did was add more questions. I get there is probably some grand reveal planed, but after 8 books, all I feel is strung out. And some character development wouldn't hurt either. Other than Corins revelation at the very end of this book, all of our characters have been exactly the same from the start. Gaining more and more power is not character development.

Revisado: 04-10-21
Another loner protagonist with a sassy sidekick, but at least he's not broody. In a game with a system a lot of people are going to recognize. The premise is unique and the world building awesome. Can't wait for more!
