He tells the story of his family of 12 children "living in a black house on a hill with parents who often disappeared, sometimes for days on end, leaving us to our own devices." Some current professionals might use the term "psychological maltreatment" to explain what we experienced, long term, on that hill.

No.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes, it was slow and drab.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not really. There are five hours left in the book. After 10 hours invested, I am not motivated by the story to continue listening. It just lacked a good plot. Also, I really didn't like how she jumped around with the story. It just wasn't for me.

All the characters were a mess and the bad language did not add a thing to the book.
