There are few remaining frontiers on our planet. But perhaps the wildest, and least understood, are the world's oceans: too big to police, and under no clear international authority, these immense regions of treacherous water play host to rampant criminality and exploitation.

More editorial than journalism
Revisado: 03-03-25
The book literally and metaphorically covers a lot of ground in areas that most people have no exposure to. Had the author stopped there it would have been an interesting and informative book. The extensive editorializing gets repetitive and preachy. I think he could have left most of the commentary out and the book would have made a strong case just on the facts presented.

Historia
It all started with the geese. The Firefly crew is eager to get paid for their latest job, but when payment arrives as a gaggle of geese instead of a purse, their stay on the planet Brome gets an indefinite extension. No matter that the geese will fetch a pretty penny once they get somewhere to sell them. Without coin, they can’t buy fuel, and without fuel, they can’t get offworld. Serenity is stuck.

Not true to the original characters
Revisado: 01-27-25
The story is well written but I think the author has altered the characters to fit her own preferences and biases. The overall plot is solid, but a lot of the internal monologues aren’t consistent with the characters histories. Some of the dialogue fits and is familiar, but then you are pulled out of the story by some inconsistency.

PJ ORouke was a gifted writer, but this compilation doesn’t really do him justice. It’s about 2 hour too long and comes off as very smug.

Historia
When unforeseen circumstances during an innovative—and unsanctioned—commercial asteroid-mining mission leave two crew members stranded, those who make it back must engineer a rescue, all while navigating a shifting web of global political alliances and renewed Cold War tensions. With Earth governments consumed by the ravages of climate change and unable to take the risks necessary to make rapid progress in space, the crew must build their own next-gen spacecraft capable of mounting a rescue in time for the asteroid's next swing by Earth.

Falls flat as a sequel. Overly preachy.
Revisado: 03-20-23
The narrator was the star here, and really elevated a mediocre story.
The story fits the template that Suarez has used with great success, but most of the characters are flat and don’t really change or grow much. They mostly come across as devices to leverage in some particular concept or monologue. The book is equal parts climate sermon and actual story.
I would only recommend this book if you desperately need a conclusion to Delta-V. Otherwise I think you find some of the earlier books more enjoyable.

Good performance saves it from a 1 star review.
Revisado: 09-01-20
The author seemed confused as to what type of story she was writing. It goes back and forth between adventure/thriller and preachy social awareness, and, perhaps as a result, does neither particularly well. The characters are predictable stock pieces with little development. The plot runs straight ahead on rails. Even the cultural homilies are predictable. It’s too bad, because the premise had great potential

A pompous, self absorbed story
Revisado: 02-04-20
The are some amusing trucker and travel
stories in this book, but about 1/3 of it is the author’s musings on what we are all doing wrong. He is very experienced and well informed in his field, but mistakenly assumes
that this level of knowledge and expertise translates to other areas of life. If you ever have to move using a moving company, or like travel stories, there is some good content here for you. Don’t spend a credit or pay full price. Wait for this one to go on sale.

You don’t necessarily need to thank them for their service - the pleasure is all theirs. In this hilarious and personal memoir, listeners ride shotgun alongside former Army Ranger and private military contractor and current social media phenomenon Mat Best, into the action and its aftermath, both abroad and at home.

An honest memoir
Revisado: 11-14-19
The book starts out a little shallow and superficial, presumably like the author in his early life. I started to get a bit bored as some of the anecdotes seemed to get a bit repetitive, but in the last quarter of the book I was pretty impressed with how the author matured and developed.

The White House is the home of the president of the United States, the most guarded, monitored, closely watched person in the world. So how could a US president vanish without a trace? And why would he choose to do so? An unprecedented collaboration between President Bill Clinton and the world's best-selling novelist, James Patterson, The President Is Missing is a breathtaking story from the pinnacle of power.

Some good parts, but disappointing over all.
Revisado: 02-28-19
Someone should stop Dennis Quaid if he ever tried to do a woman's voice ever again. He has his gifts, but that is not one of them. Overall the story was a little plot by numbers, and the characters were fairly monolithic. Don't expect any deep philosophical musings or amazing insights into this very rarified atmosphere or the people who inhabit it. I am not sure how much the former president contributed to what goes on in some of the meetings portrayed here, but I hope it is more nuanced in real life than in the book. The book stayed away from partisan politics up until the very end, and then ended on a monologue that is over the top. The last 20 minutes could have been summarized with, "The country would be great if you would just agree with me and abandon your own ideas." It all left a very bad after taste. Don't spend a credit, wait for it on a half price sale.
