mediocre
Revisado: 05-17-10
This is the only title in the series I really didn't enjoy. The others kept me interested. Yes, they are all a bit formulaic, but they are fun and lighthearted reads. I can't pinpoint why this one seemed to be lacking, but it just didn't keep my interest, which is rare for me because I love to get lost in these stories.

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

not the best...but good enough
Revisado: 02-02-10
The narrator does a good job, except for the "French" accent. He wasn't even close to French, but for everyone else he nailed it. The story itself is good, not King's best and about 3 chapters too long. By the fourth installment, I was thinking he really dragged it out for too long. He closed off all of the story lines, but it took FOREVER and the conclusion was too tidy.

Historia
The long-awaited new novel from Margaret Atwood. The Year of the Flood is a dystopic masterpiece and a testament to her visionary power. The times and species have been changing at a rapid rate, and the social compact is wearing as thin as environmental stability. Adam One, the kindly leader of the God's Gardeners - a religion devoted to the melding of science and religion, as well as the preservation of all plant and animal life - has long predicted a natural disaster that will alter Earth as we know it. Now it has occurred, obliterating most human life.

I can't imagine reading this book and not having the actual music to bring the songs in it alive. Not only is the story perfection, but the production and narration are exactly right!

Historia
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six. They were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry was thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future.

good story - bad narrator
Revisado: 02-02-10
The story is good, but this narrator is the worst I've heard! Instead of a different voice for some, she shouts and it's hard for me to pinpoint exactly what it is, but the emphasis, the emotion behind the words is wrong. Bad timing? Inappropriate tone...not exactly sure, but I felt irritated through the whole book and, if the story weren't so good, I would have quit listening by the second chapter.

To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare, woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss, and strife to reach the ultimate turning point.

A bit melodramatic
Revisado: 08-23-09
I suppose, being a 40-something woman, this book isn't exactly written for me as an audience. I adored the characters in the Twilight film and had to find out what happened to them in the end. I skipped over sections, where the author droned on and on, basically repeating herself and building the melodrama. A good story, though I would suggest it is not worth the full price, not by a longshot.

Pretty good
Revisado: 04-07-09
I really enjoyed the worlds created by the authors. I would have enjoyed it more if the author doing the narrating hadn't yakked about himself and the process so much in between the stories. That could have come at the end of the "book", after the stories, as a "how this book was made" commentary. Otherwise cool stories with some memorable characters and concepts.

Surprisingly Good!
Revisado: 04-07-09
I had never read anything by this author before, so I was a wee bit skeptical. In the end I was rewarded with a fun book, albeit a wee bit formulaic, that had me laughing out loud and fully engaged throughout. The main character is a fully-developed female officer and she didn't fit the stereotypical female sci-fi character. She was strong and capable and intelligent. Definitely a great listen! I'm going to scour this site for more books by this author.

Eleven years have passed since SHEVA was discovered in human DNA - a retrovirus that caused mutations in the human genome and heralded the arrival of a new wave of genetically enhanced humans. Now, these changed children have reached adolescence...and face a world that is outraged about their very existence. For these special youths, possessed of remarkable, advanced traits that mark a major turning point in human development, are also ticking time bombs harboring hosts of viruses that could exterminate the "old" human race.

Unique story & well told!
Revisado: 02-12-09
I loved this book. The story was plausible, as good science fiction should be. The characters are three-dimensional and, a rarity in SF, the female characters are fully realized, and believable. The narrator did such a good job that I got completely lost in the story. That's rare, I usually get occasionally distracted by the narrator but this one let the story shine and did an impeccable job.
