Historia
In A Mind for Numbers, Dr. Oakley lets us in on the secrets to learning effectively - secrets that even dedicated and successful students wish they’d known earlier. Contrary to popular belief, math requires creative, as well as analytical, thinking. Most people think that there’s only one way to do a problem, when in actuality, there are often a number of different solutions - you just need the creativity to see them.

Long winded
Revisado: 11-11-24
This book seemed very long-winded to me. Also, the choice of a male narrator was very strange for an obviously female perspective. It’s my fault though… I didn’t listen to the preview. In the end, this wasn’t valuable to me and I stopped listening with 4 hours remaining.

Historia
Though there has been a resurgence in the domestic arts and a desire to live a simpler lifestyle, the role of a homemaker is still unpopular. Viewed as an unfulfilling and even oppressive way of life, many women feel a sense of shame or futility in managing the world of their home. Theology of Home: The Spiritual Art of Homemaking turns this misguided notion on its head, shining new light on the role of a homemaker as it relates the deepest truths of the Faith with an honest and fearless understanding of the modern world.

Nice framing of motherhood
Revisado: 02-02-24
The book was good overall, although occasionally boring. This is written from a Catholic perspective. As I find in most religious books, there is an air of pompous superiority embedded in the text - even when several other religions live the espoused principles more comprehensively and consistently. It makes one wander if it is arrogance or ignorance being displayed. But despite this common occurrence that is not exclusive to this book, the message is good and worth reading. The best part of this book is that it quotes many other books, which added to my list of upcoming reads.

Interesting information
Revisado: 12-25-23
The new perspective on cells was interesting. I enjoyed the main contents of the book. I must admit, I could’ve skipped the epilogue and used that time more productively.

You've seen the headlines: Parmesan cheese made from sawdust. Lobster rolls containing no lobster at all. Extra-virgin olive oil that isn't. Fake foods are in our supermarkets, our restaurants, and our kitchen cabinets. Award-winning food journalist and travel writer Larry Olmsted exposes this pervasive and dangerous fraud perpetrated on unsuspecting Americans.

Long winded
Revisado: 12-18-23
This book had good information, but it was long winded on nearly every part. It was like listening to someone taking way too long recounting a recent vacation… interesting turns to boring after a while. If the stories were a bit shorter more information could’ve been included such as spices and teas which were mentioned briefly. I recommend the book, but you may find yourself fast forwarding or skipping sections to find useful information vs. never ending stories.

Historia
Southern food is integral to the American culinary tradition, yet the question of who "owns" it is one of the most provocative touchpoints in our ongoing struggles over race. In this unique memoir, culinary historian Michael W. Twitty takes listeners to the white-hot center of this fight, tracing the roots of his own family and the charged politics surrounding the origins of soul food, barbecue, and all Southern cuisine.

Wreaks of amateurism
Revisado: 11-08-21
Very amateur writing with a lot of regurgitated opinions that can be seen elsewhere by googling. The narrator’s voice doesn’t sound especially healthy- more like a nagging mom. She is obviously not into fasting and has no medical terminology background because she stumbles a lot and mispronounces medical words. The author often says something “proves” something else, when it doesn’t. The book is not in depth, and she often provides links to videos in the supplemental material to explain things she should’ve done herself in the book. It wasn’t impressive and is priced as such. I didn’t hate it (mostly because I love fasting), I just don’t understand why people don’t put more effort into something that bares their name. The book is average.

Awkward
Revisado: 10-26-21
This book was weird. Although there was plenty of (mostly unnecessary) profanity in the book, the reader didn’t sound like someone who uses profanity normally. This made the book awkward and the language feel like a cheap cry for attention. A different reader probably could’ve pulled it off much better. The pertinent info in the book wasn’t super impressive. It’s similar to what you learn in college ethics or psych classes. Overall, unimpressive. However, it’s short, so it may be worth a listen for some.

Historia
Early in her career, Kelly Turner, PhD, a researcher, lecturer, and counselor in Integrative Oncology, was shocked to discover that no one was studying episodes of radical remission, when people recover against all odds without the help of conventional medicine, or after conventional medicine has failed. She was so fascinated by this kind of remission that she spent eight years travelling through 10 countries to learn what factors that people experiencing this phenomenon encountered.

Good Suggestions for Anyone
Revisado: 10-18-21
This book was not the least bit misleading as another reviewer claimed. It did not promise cure at any point, but offered much needed hope. The common sense advice offered in this book can enhance anyone’s life. The telling of experience is affirming for the survivors, people the medical community generally pays little attention to. It was an interesting, positive “read”. At the very least, it can improve the remainder of someone’s life. At best, it may improve and extend someone’s life.
