A mixed bag...
Revisado: 10-02-19
The author has a great understanding of human nature and it is aptly and interestingly applied to her characters. I enjoyed listening as I did my chores and hated to turn the title off. That being said, there was no real plot or ending. I am left feeling unfufilled, yet not wanting to let go of her characters. Rather frustrating feeling. I'd love a round 2 for these characters... The performers did an EXCELLENT job. I'd gladly listen to them again in other titles.

Historia
When Inspector Peter Glebsky arrives at a remote ski chalet on vacation, the last thing he intends to do is get involved in any police work. He's there to ski, drink brandy, and loaf around in blissful solitude. But he hadn't counted on the other vacationers, an eccentric bunch, including a famous hypnotist, a physicist with a penchant for gymnastic feats, a sulky teenager of indeterminate gender, and the mysterious Mr. and Mrs. Moses.

Great performance. The story is very interesting, but the end is just weird-and kinda sad. Mixed feelings on this one. It did hold my interest, but I also feel like it was time wasted. Perhaps I just chose the wrong genre. #CrazyEnding #SadEnding #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Historia
This true modern masterpiece is built around the two fateful words that make up the title and herald the end - “Alas, Babylon.” When a nuclear holocaust ravages the United States, a thousand years of civilization are stripped away overnight, and tens of millions of people are killed instantly. But for one small town in Florida, miraculously spared, the struggle is just beginning, as men and women of all backgrounds join together to confront the darkness....

Likeable Characters-Enjoyable Listen
Revisado: 11-12-18
This is a 1950's version of 'what if' most major US cities/military bases were hit during a nuclear holocaust. The story is set in Central Florida and is a great representation of what a natural, 'real' Florida looked like outside of the current crowds, snowbirds, and 'The Mouse'. The book goes into detail of survival, relationships, hardships, and the joys during such a horrific event. Pat Frank's characters are colorful, likeable, and very much so like Native Floridians of the 1950s. The narration is so/so in the first chapter or two, but improves steadily throughout the presentation. I have read this book many times in the past. Overall, the narrator did a good job considering the content. I recommend this title, ESPECIALLY to those that like a book that will make them think, are interested in survival/what-if scenarios, and that like to get lost in a time-gone-by. #ColdWar #Thoughtful #SmallTown #Survival #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

A Great Summary of Great Life Advice
Revisado: 02-18-18
I read the book years ago as a kid and recently purchased the full version from Audible as well. This summary is perfect to the full version. I like to play it on the way to work in order to keep the principles fresh in my mind. I need it there most on the day-to-day basis! The narrator does a good job. I like his voice; it reminds me of the actor James Spader. #Inspiring #Educational #HumanNature #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Revisado: 01-10-18
I typically do bot care for dramatizations of Christie's works as they are often overly dramatic and the music too loud. This one was neither. It was just fine. I enjoyed the story and the the dramatization both. #Mystery #AmateurDetective #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Enjoyable. Got me through choresm
Revisado: 01-03-18
I gave the narration a "3" which may not be entirely fair. No irritating voices. I find I just don't like the dramatic versions as much as the single narrator format. This one was read too dramatically. Sound effects and background music far too loud. Perhaps the loud music/effects are what some like, but I found them to be too distracting to the story line. #IrritatingEffects #AmateurDetective #GoodStory #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

A Favorite
Revisado: 11-24-17
It has been years since I have read Heidi. I had forgotten how much I love this story. It is an easy listen and enjoyable for both young and old. Flo Gibson's narration makes the story all the more sentimental and magical. Listening to her voice is comforting, as if my own grandmother is reading me the story. I will listen again to this one very soon. #Nostalgic #HappyEnding #FeelGood #SmallTown #ChildProtagonist #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Love My Christie!
Revisado: 09-29-17
That being said, I had some difficulty keeping all of the characters straight in this one. Partially perhaps that I listen during chores and had some interuption between chapters. Despite that, it was still worth the listen and I enjoyed the ending. The narrator is consistently wonderful. One of my favorites.
