Historia
This is the true story of how one moment in time, by the thinnest thread of a chance, changed the course of a small boy's life in ways that are beyond description. One day he would dance with some of the greatest ballet companies of the world. One day he would be a friend to a president and first lady, movie stars, and the most influential people in America. One day he would become a star: Mao's last dancer, and the darling of the West.

Captivating story!
Revisado: 09-12-16
I bought this book knowing nothing of Li Cunxin, his defection and ballet career, and little of China under Chairman Mao. Very quickly though, I waa drawn into this sweeping story of a peasant turned world-famous headline-making Westerner. I would have loved more detail into the daily life of Cunxin both as a boy and a famous ballet dancer. He puts more importance on events, which I will say is unsurprising as his life is certainly an eventful one! It was nice to listen to this, as one gets the correct pronunciation of the Chinese words of the story. Agree with previous reviewers that the choice of narrator was maybe not the best, but the fast pace and interesting subject matter make this a very small complaint. I would definitely recommend this listen!!

Historia
It is 1923. Evangeline (Eva) English and her sister Lizzie are missionaries heading for the ancient Silk Road city of Kashgar. Though Lizzie is on fire with her religious calling, Eva's motives are not quite as noble, but with her green bicycle and a commission from a publisher to write A Lady Cyclist's Guide to Kashgar, she is ready for adventure. In present day London, a young woman, Frieda, returns from a long trip abroad to find a man sleeping outside her front door. She gives him a blanket and a pillow, and in the morning finds the bedding neatly folded....

Returned!
Revisado: 08-02-16
I ended up returning this book because the narration was so strange. The narrator seems like she is trying to do an unnatural voice, and sounds so breathy and faint.

Food for thought
Revisado: 08-02-16
This collection of essays gives a lot to think on! Readers of the zen habits blog will be familiar with Leo Babautas writing. i.e. his deep thoughts contrasted with only occasional condescension and high handedness. A lot of good work here though, a must for anyone who craves a simpler minimal lifestyle

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood delivers the first novel in an enthralling new series set amid the shifting dynamics of a Southern family defined by wealth and privilege - and compromised by secrets, deceit, and scandal...For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege - as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly.

When it's good it's very very good...
Revisado: 08-02-16
I purchased this audiobook when it was a daily deal and finished it in about a week, listening while I did my chores all day! I got caught up in the saga of the super rich Bradford family, and the good parts were awesome. However, a couple things got in the way of completely enjoying the story. The women's voices are grating and shallow, I almost cringed whenever Lizzie was speaking, though she's a fair character otherwise. Her and Lane have a good story, but her gesture at the end of the book is pretty trite. A let down. I am just starting the sequel, mainly to find out the rest of the story with Gin and Richard, Edward, Shelby, and Sutton. The setting and the drama surrounding Lizzie and Lane make up for these complaints, I would recommend for someone who doesn't mind a mediocre performance.

Historia
It is 1906, and in New York City, the Italian crime group known as the Black Hand is on a spree: kidnapping, extortion, arson. Detective Isaac Bell of the Van Dorn Agency is hired to form a special Black Hand Squad, but the gangsters appear to be everywhere - so much so that Bell begins to wonder if there are imitators, criminals using the name for the terror effect. And then the murders begin, each one of a man more powerful than the last, and, as Bell discovers to his dismay, the ultimate target may be the most powerful man of all.

Narrator was perfect, Clive Cussler is excellent
Revisado: 05-02-16
I loved this book, like all others from this author. the Isaac Bell series takes a little more time together into than the other series... stick with this one! My one complaint is that the ending was a little predictable. The scene with Isaac and Culp admiring the ice yacht is a pretty clear indicator that it will play a part in the explosive ending, even more so when Isaac purchases his own. However, Clive Cusslers fast paced novels are always an engrossing treat.
