Holly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but this story is captivating. The premise is eerily simple yet compelling. A must read for every King fan!

Historia
When single mother Liv is commissioned to paint a mural in a 100-year-old lighthouse on a remote Scottish island, it's an opportunity to start over with her three daughters - Luna, Sapphire, and Clover. When two of her daughters go missing, she's frantic. She learns that the cave beneath the lighthouse was once a prison for women accused of witchcraft. The locals warn her about wildlings, supernatural beings who mimic human children, created by witches for revenge. Liv is told wildlings are dangerous and must be killed.

Great story
Revisado: 10-14-23
This story really had me hooked. There were great characters, an intriguing story, and “wildlings!” I couldn’t put it down. Glad I used a credit to buy this book. I’ll probably check out other books by this author.

Odd all the way
Revisado: 10-10-23
Odd Thomas is such a fun read. The story is a great combination: supernatural, murder mystery, love story, and good ol’ fashioned page turner. This was the original, “I see dead people…” (actually I’m sure that award goes to some Greek author, but eh). This is an entertaining book that I’ve read, but since it was our book club’s choice for October I grabbed the audio. I’m glad I did. David Aaron Baker did a great job.

The last battle burned the planet to a charred husk, and civilization is nothing more than a few scattered tribes...like the surviving corps of elite killers who served the old dictatorship....or the sadistic bands of motorcycle hoods, prowling the ruins for victims...or the slavers, mutants and madmen preying on those who hope to rebuild the future. Only a brave handful like Logan and his family, who are the hunted in a world of vicious predators, hope to save the strange and bloody land that is Logan's World.

Historia
“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

King is King of Writing
Revisado: 10-12-20
“Writing is magic,” is probably one of my favorite quotes from this book because that sums up how beautiful writing can be. This isn’t a nuts and bolts book on how to write. It is a book of how Stephen King writes. What’s great about that is, many of his nuts and bolts may actually help you. It’s positive, tells you what he likes, doesn’t like, and how his babysitter would sit on him and fart. Yeah, that actually happened. I loved this book, and if you are a Stephen King fan or would like to learn how to explore writing (reading and writing a lot helps), you really should buy this book. I’m off to purchase a hard copy!

In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.

Great insight
Revisado: 07-22-20
Mary L. Trump PhD does a great job analyzing her uncle, his history, and why he behaves the way he does. I can see why he tried to get it blocked, but honestly the only people who will read this and take it as fact are those who already know he’s damaged. His base, if they do read this, will think it’s a book of sour grapes. Should Mary and Fritz have gotten their fair share? I think so, but that’s my opinion. Since I’m not a multimillionaire/billionaire like her grandparents, my opinion doesn’t matter. I hope this book brings some light to an otherwise dark place in our history.

Wonderful story, superb narrator
Revisado: 06-26-20
This was my first book by this author, and I am so glad I purchased it. Nancy Wu was brilliant as the narrator; she brought Laila Ibrahim’s words to life. I didn’t have a lot of background knowledge about this time period for the Chinese immigration, so I found this story interesting. I plan to find out more, as I think it’s important to learn where we came from. I loved how the author weaved historically accurate facts throughout her story (the questioning on Angel Island, people memorizing facts, and people buying paperwork to bring family from China illegally) with some of the mysticism (ghosts, praying to ancestors, and leaving offerings). This was just a beautiful story that mixed both the traditional as well as the modern Chinese culture turn of the century Chinese-Americans faced.
