Historia
When the village doctor calls, saying he is sure there is something fishy about one of his patients’ deaths, Sukey follows up his claims. Well-liked and kindly Adelaide Minchin appears to have died in a fall. Sukey can find no evidence to the contrary, but promises the doctor she will keep his theory in mind. Meanwhile, the police force is suddenly very busy after two young girls go missing in the very same village. As Sukey investigates the last place the girls were seen, she realises it was very close to Adelaide’s cottage.... Is it possible that the cases are linked?

I like the Suki stories and they are interesting and relaxing, though not that involved, but good.

Historia
Jonathan Hale is terrified. The wealthy property lawyer and money launderer is back home in Surrey after a nightmare experience in a U.S. jail. The police have him under secret surveillance. But Hales's fears lie elsewhere. His plea bargain has earned him the enmity of The Reptile, a notoriously cold-hearted gangster, now confined for life in a maximum-security jail in Arizona thanks to Hale. He's taken precautions, moved house, hidden his identity and installed security for his wife and family. But still… what if The Reptile escapes?

Historia
After the National Crime Agency cracks a major drug gang, junior barrister Julia McGann finds herself defending the violent enforcer Terrence Bonner. This high-profile case is a coup for her, but almost immediately things start to go wrong. Intruders break into her house, and then a young girl turns up at her door with a horrifying story to tell. Three months later, DCI Craig Gillard and his team struggle with the shocking murder of a much-respected local headmaster, found dead in his own car. The baffling crime fills the newspapers but yields few clues.

REVISED review
Revisado: 01-27-25
REVISING my initial review at 1/2 book which is below. I was frustrated at about the 1/2 point with the Julia character and little of police procedure. However this story was resolved after the last Gillard book, #12, and I returned and finished it. The remaining story is much more compelling, and returns Gillard to a bigger character. And I think Louth reveals his ability to build characters when telling the story through Destiny and her thoughts. It is interesting to see how people get drawn into crime, never ever planning to do anything violent or illegal, how some young people have little chance. One faithful decision, misstep, can cascade into disaster. I found the ending sad, really because Louth had built such a realistic character that the reader feels real sympathy. INITIAL REVIEW: I’m only halfway in and I’m abandoning this book. I read reviews, having been frustrated with story. I’m reading series, but as the others said, Craig Gillard is a peripheral character. Others seemed frustrated by the ending, so I don’t want to waste more time on it. This woman’s life is frustrating, it’s taking too long to get to a police procedural type plot which this was suppose to be. I actually PAID TO LISTEN TO THIS.

Historia
A young detective is out for a jog on a snowy winter morning. Then she sees something terrible: a murder in the park, sudden and inexplicable. A woman has been killed by a passing hooded cyclist. It’s just DCI Craig Gillard’s luck that he’s on duty. The body is that of Tanvi Roy, one of the richest women in Britain and matriarch of a food empire. With a tangled web of family and business contacts and jealousies, Gillard’s job just got even more complex. As he delves deeper into the Roy family, it’s clear that everything is not as it seems.

Historia
Criminologist Martin Knight lives a gilded life and is a thorn in the side of the police. But then his wife, Liz, goes missing. There is no good explanation and no sign of Martin.... To make things worse, Liz is the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard who is drawn into the investigation. Is it just a missing person or something worse? And what relevance do the events around the shocking Girl F case, so taken up by Knight, have to do with the present? The truth is darker than you could ever have imagined.

Good story — involved
Revisado: 01-05-25
I pretty much liked all of it. Reader’s female voices are a bit off some, but not enough to take away from the story. I enjoyed it a lot, listen to many British police procedural novels.

Historia
As the mists roll over the fens and enigmatic lights twinkle in the distance, only the locals know their way along the hidden paths through the mysterious watery terrain of one of England's most beautiful and sometimes dangerous places. Detective Matt Ballard may have retired but there's still plenty going on in the fens to keep him busy. Someone trashes an old lady's garden and daubs her isolated cottage with hateful graffiti. Emilia Swain seems to be totally harmless, so why is she being targeted?

Not a detective procedural
Revisado: 10-16-24
This book was interesting, but it became increasingly disturbing as it went along. The story was very dark, and then unsatisfying in the end. I don’t understand the plot twist, except that Will let her die as she was obviously trying to kill herself, I didn’t like the ending st all.

Historia
When Matt Ballard was starting out his career, three boys were murdered in the same area, the remote and bleak Gibbet Fen. When the main suspect was killed in a hit-and-run, the killings stopped. But Matt was not satisfied that the real murderer had been caught. Over 25 years later, Matt gets a photo in an unmarked envelope. It's of the Gibbet Fen crime scene. And the picture was taken before the murder took place. More photos arrive, relating to the historic murders, as well as intimate pictures of Matt's very secret private life.

Liz is convinced the bag belongs to Old Molly, a local woman who lives on the streets. The following day, a body is discovered in a marshy lagoon. It's Old Molly. Suffocated with an expensive men's handkerchief. Molly clearly knew something that got her killed. Liz believes she was trying to tell them something important. Best Matt Ballard and Liz yet!
Revisado: 09-26-24
I thought the plot line and characters were very interesting. Best one yet. I enjoy the reader much more than the 1st Matt Ballard reader. The main criticism is that it’s very detailed all through then seems to be closed rather quickly. I think that there were character lines left hanging — the crooks that got away, the boys after returning to parents, brother, the head constable that turns out to be involved in the criminal training plot. More about David and Jeff. There’s a lot to be explored in a follow up novel. I hope there will be one.

Historia
A skeleton is found in a shallow grave in the churchyard. But this was not an official burial. The victim was murdered decades ago. At the same time, Detective Nikki Galena and her team are investigating the brutal slaying of local businesswoman Madeline Prospero. She was a member of an exclusive and secretive drinking club called The Briar Patch. But they've got no suspects and no one is telling them the truth. Meanwhile, the buried skeleton leads them on a trail to the village of Quintin Eaudyke. This is a troubled place. In the late 70s and 80s a reign of terror was unleashed.

Exciting Read/Difficult Subject
Revisado: 05-08-24
The action and characters were involved and well developed, though I thought the epilogue could have offered more info. A narration by the killer offered the reason behind the twisted persona, but the book ended without the police understanding. It was a difficult unpleasant subject — mentally ill adults grown from children traumatized by apparent physical and/or sexual abuse years past, one a killer. I didn’t like the Galena character much at first, compared to Jackman, but she has developed well during the series. I appreciate they are free as I consume about two a month. Again, the books are interesting, and the characters and action well developed.
