Historia
Vurt is a feather - a drug, a dimension, a dream state, a virtual reality. It comes in many colours: legal Blues for lullaby dreams. Blacks, filled with tenderness and pain, just beyond the law. Pink Pornovurts, doorways to bliss. Silver feathers for techies who know how to remix colors and open new dimensions. And Yellows - the feathers from which there is no escape. The beautiful young Desdemona is trapped in Curious Yellow, the ultimate Metavurt, a feather few have ever seen and fewer still have dared ingest. Her brother Scribble will risk everything to rescue his beloved sister.

Alice in Wonderland Cyberpunk Drug Haze
Revisado: 03-17-23
This book is well written and weird. My advice-- Don't think too hard about how anything works in this world (it's never really explained) and just accept it as a drug induced wild ride between reality and fantasy. Of course, if you're not in the mood for a book about wild drug trips this is probably not the book for you.

Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

Fantastic!

Pretty good. About 1/3 too long.
Revisado: 12-21-22
I'm sure most people, like me, are mostly interested in the band-- both their professional and personal lives. Those parts were good. The politics and name dropping should have been cut. I know Bono is proud of those accomplishments and all of the amazing people he's met. It's just not what a U2 fan is buying this book for (and lets be honest, only U2 fans are buying this book). I saw some negative comments about the flowery prose. I actually enjoyed that. It was poetic and went with Bono's personality. But it did drag on about 8-9 hours too long. And Bono, at times, dragged out the delivery. Playing the book at 1.2 speed and skipping all of the politics and name dropping segments was perfect. I'm sure someone could do an excellent "fan edit" abridged version of this.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Most of the 5 star reviews must be fake
Revisado: 08-07-22
I think most of the 5 star reviews are from a marketing company. It must be the same group that plasters social media with fake recommendations for this book.
Ray Porter is excellent as a narrator. The author, however, appears to have just made a list of sciencey obstacles for the main character to overcome because he is so smart. Hey it worked in The Martian! (which it did). It just doesn’t work here.

The 5 star reviews must be fake
Revisado: 08-27-21
The gushing 5 star reviews of this book must be fake. Overall the book is very weak. Very few interesting stories. It's basically Cary Elwes gushing over everyone who participated in the movie in the very fake way Hollywood actors praise each other. ("He's one of the most talented... She is incredibly gifted... The most amazing cast and crew...." Blah, Blah, Blah. The only semi-interesting parts were about Andre the Giant. Maybe a book just about him would be good. Everything else was pretty boring. Skip this one.

In High Earth, digital entertainment is everything. Shows. Virtual worlds. Simulations - there’s something for everybody in a city where working for a living has been rendered obsolete by technological advancements. Even a short walk outside to visit with others is no longer necessary. Just load into the network and you can be with anyone, anywhere. For Asher Reinhart, nothing compares to Ignis; a live reality show that pushes human beings to their very extremes.

Solid book. GREAT narration.
Revisado: 07-03-21
Great narrators can make (or break) an audio book. I liked this book. It had an engaging story. The reason I recommend it as an audio book is due to the fantastic narration. Wil Wheaton, as always, was solid. And Katherine McNamara stole the show. Immediately after finishing this book, I looked for other titles she has narrated. Sadly, there are none.

Fraa Erasmus is a young avout living in the Concent of Saunt Edhar, a sanctuary for mathematicians, scientists, and philosophers, protected from the corrupting influences of the "Saecular" world by ancient stone, honored traditions, and complex rituals. Over the centuries, cities, and governments have risen and fallen beyond the concent's walls. Three times during history's darkest epochs, bloody violence born of superstition and ignorance has invaded and devastated the cloistered mathic community.

Historia
In celebration of the week-long, once-in-a-decade rite of Apert, the fras and suurs prepare to venture outside the concent's gates - opening them wide at the same time to welcome the curious "extras" in. During his first Apert as a fra, Erasmus eagerly anticipates reconnecting with the landmarks and family he hasn't seen since he was "collected". But before the week is out, both the existence he abandoned and the one he embraced will stand poised on the perilous brink of cataclysmic change.

Living and slaving in Fill City One, you get used to the smell. We call it the Everpresent Stink. But every once in a while, on a spring day with a breeze, it clears away enough to remind us that there is something more out there. Most Fillers' wildest dreams would be just to get past the walls and live in the mainland. But my dream? It’s a little bigger. I’m going to Mars.

Good beginning, decent ending, UGH in between
Revisado: 01-22-20
This books starts our quite entertaining. Then it gets very cringe worthy in the middle. The "love story" thrown in for the main character was completely out of place and unbelievable. I kind of liked the ending, although at that point I was listening at 1.25x speed to get through it. The narrator was good, but overall the book was just OK.

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

Starts great, then drags and fizzles
Revisado: 10-21-19
The beginning is incredible and worth reading just for that. Then it becomes a typical zombie book. The ending is weak— maybe because it is so abrupt.

Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Thought Provoking
Revisado: 09-28-19
I really enjoyed this book. The beginning and the end were absolutely amazing. There were a few slower parts in the middle, but I'm still giving this 5 stars. Most of the negative reviews seem to be from very religious readers, which makes sense-- their world view is challenged again and again. Even my own view of the world was challenged (something that I very much enjoyed).
I typically read fiction as I find a lot of non-fiction repetitive with ideas from a whole book that could have been summed up in one chapter. This was not the case with this book. It covers a lot of information which I appreciated.
