Historia
Roger Ackroyd knew too much. He knew that the woman he loved had poisoned her brutal first husband. He suspected, also, that someone had been blackmailing her. Then, tragically, came the news that she had taken her own life with a drug overdose. But the evening post brought Roger one last fatal scrap of information. Unfortunately, before he could finish reading the letter, he was stabbed to death.

One of Christie's Best
Revisado: 10-27-22
While not my favorite Christie, it's a classic and at the time was very ingenious, changed the way people thought of writing mysteries.
Hugh Fraser is my favorite for Christie audiobooks so his performance was stellar as usual.
Definitely worth the listen.

More historical fiction than mystery novel, but I thoroughly enjoyed it all. The performance is great and the story just keeps pulling you in. Highly recommend.

Delightful and Incredible - Highly Recommend
Revisado: 09-16-19
Haben has a fascinating story with a lot of heart and words of wisdom. She is a testiment to what you can do if you "live boldly" and stand up for yourself and others. Many able-bodied individuals don't think much about how disabled people live, but she brings that to the surface with fascinating detail and makes you think about the world around you in a new light.

This was a great Introduction to CBT and how it can be used in many situations. It is engaging and interesting and the narrator lays things out clearly in a way that is accessible to beginners.

Historia
Many of literature's greatest works, from ancient myths to the works of Nobel laureates, rely on fantasy. Even when there has been a dominant preference for realism, generation after generation of readers have been drawn to stories of the fantastic-not only for what they help us learn about ourselves as individuals or as members of society, but also for what they show about our social values.

Broad Lit Crit overview of... Mostly Sci Fi

Revisado: 01-20-16
Would you listen to Masterpieces of the Imaginative Mind: Literature's Most Fantastic Works again? Why?
I have already listened to this lecture twice. The professor is knowledgeable and provides multiple theoretical view points. The subject matter ranges widely enough to keep you on your toes.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Masterpieces of the Imaginative Mind: Literature's Most Fantastic Works?
I thoroughly enjoyed his treatment of early fairy tales, Edgar Allan Poe, and Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass. These were by far the best parts of the discussion. Detailed and thought provoking, these discussions challenged the listener to reread many of these stories with a new perspective.
I also very much enjoyed his discussion and treatment of J.R. Tolkien as well as the Sci Fi genre.
Any additional comments?
Fantasy is a wonderful genre because it allows us to pull back from our assumptions about the world, examine issues and concepts we wouldn't normally question, and take a deeper look at our own selves.

In these 12 inspiring lectures, Professor Fears presents a well-balanced portrait of Churchill that does not whitewash his flaws. Yet he also draws on the most recent historical scholarship and material from Churchill's writings and speeches to make the case that Churchill belongs with Pericles of Athens and Abraham Lincoln as one of the greatest statesmen in the history of democracy.

Grain of salt
Revisado: 02-18-15
The narrator is really reading a romantic story of the life of Winston Churchill.
While much of the information is accurate, he does not discuss sources, nor alternative theories or view points.
While bias is expected of all professors, I would take all of the inferences in this lecture with a grain of salt as the professor does not share how he came to his conclusions or why he included that information.
He asks very little thought to be done by the listener, and makes broad sweeping assumptions about the world that are contested and discussed in depth in many classrooms.
If you are looking for a fun narrative of Winston Churchill's life then this is for you. If you are looking for an in depth academic discussion of Winston Churchill as a man and a historical figure, you might want to look elsewhere.

If you've never worked in the nonprofit sector it is a good introduction. The discussion is interesting and goes at a leisurely pace, but it wasn't as detailed as I hoped.
