Historia
As with everything else in my life, the descent into Hell was not so simple. When I jumped into the portal, I expected to find the Sins on the other side. I expected to find my people - demons - waiting and ready. What I found were flames and fire and ash. The apocalypse hadn't waited for me. It had already begun. Hell's barriers were collapsing in on themselves - making my task of finding the Sins infinitely harder. As the Horsemen and I set out on our journey to find them, we discover that not all is what it seems.

just really fun
Revisado: 02-14-24
There are a lot of really witty passages. Tongue in cheek humor. A fun storyline. A racoon. A hell hound. Puppies. Drama. Primordial and Fae and demons. This is just a really fun book at the end of a fun fantasy series that is Smut+. I don't care for the smut, but I LOVE the writing. The characterization is A+ Dialogue is fantastic. As a fantasy fan who grew up with Wheel of Time, The Hobbit, C.S. Lewis and later found Brandon Sanderson, Joe Abercrombie, Orson Scott Card and other amazing world builders, this series is low fantasy, but still fun enough to be worth it. All hail Bandit.

Absolutely loved season 2 and where they took the characters. I went back and listened to season one again beforehand and it was worth. There were things I missed the first time through. Live the full cast narration and the music.

Fast-paced, great characters.
Revisado: 11-10-22
I really enjoyed this. It's shorter than what I usually go for, but it was fast-paced and in the short time the characters were well developed. it ended too soon for me. I want a sequel or a longer listen that leads to some kind of resolution.

I absolutely loved this!
Revisado: 11-05-22
I grew up long after the TV show was off the air. caught The Night Stalker movie on TCM when I was a kid and then found the TV series which I binge watch every year. Finding this on Audible made my day. If you like the gritty flavor of 70s drama this is right up your alley. For context, my favorite shows are Quincy M.E., Kolchak The Night Stalker, Dark Shadows, and yes, St. Elsewhere from the early eighties. I love this book.

Great adult fantasy series
Revisado: 05-02-22
Read a review about six foot great swords and hoses and almost passed on this one. Honestly. Six foot long swords were not uncommon in the Middle Ages. Two hands with a twelve-eighteen inch hilt carried on the back, they existed. And for dudes who carried them, ideal total length was the height of the wielder. Also, first hoses were documented 2500 bc or something like that. Fire hoses made of ox stomachs and intestines. So anyway. It’s still a great, funny definitely adult read. There were times it reminded me of the Godling Chronicles. There were times when I was reminded of Wheel of Time. Oh! And the Stormlight Archives. I love my fantasy fiction. Someone else said it was steeped in Celtic mythos. Also a turn off for me but this had me laughing, crying, laughing, laughing and fired up in righteous indignation. Only downside? As a reader and audiobook fan and literate American some of the pronunciation of the narrator was difficult. He does have a wonderful voice and accent, but what’s a “kickada?” Still loved it, glad I got it, will listen to it again. Maybe after I do Sister Fidelma or Harry Dresden again. Hope this reaches people like me.

Historia
Evan Michaels struggles with being different, with having the complete memories of two other people who lived sequentially before him. He fights loneliness and believes he is unique until he meets Poppy. She recognizes his struggle because she is like him, except that she is much older, remembering seven consecutive lives. But there is something else she must share with Evan - she is a member of the secretive Cognomina. They are, in effect, immortals - compiling experiences and skills over lifetimes into near superhuman abilities that they have used to drive history over centuries.

So much potential.
Revisado: 09-05-21
This book has a fantastic premise. What if there are some people who are reincarnated and can remember all their past lives? What if you can stand on your own shoulders life after life building on your knowledge and expertise? Would you be a sybarite? Would you be an epicure? Would you aspire to serve humanity? Fantastic premise. But that’s where it ends. The protagonist isn’t fully developed. The action falls flat. I enjoyed the thought exercise and philosophical musings of the characters. But this isn’t a great book. I should have stopped listening at the end of the penultimate chapter.

Solid stories, weak characters
Revisado: 01-14-21
I have enjoyed all the stories and the wealth of historical details in this series and I don’t regret an hour spent listening. That comes with a caveat. I don’t normally pay attention to the characters, their interactions or the way they act upon their desires or motives to achieve their goals. If you’re a listener who enjoys the interplay of characters, sussing out their motives or seeing them transform through experience, you may find the main characters in this series disappointing. They are predictable, impotent and wholly at the mercy of the author to move them along with plot. There were times I became so frustrated with their ineffectiveness and lack of self-direction that I had to walk away. Plot-driven stories aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but the history and social contexts of this series make it worth the time.

Historia
In the high mountains of Tibet, rumors are spreading. People whisper of an outbreak, of thousands of dead, of bodies pushed into mass graves. It is some strange new disease...a disease, they say, that can kill in minutes. The Chinese government says the rumors aren't true, but no one is allowed in or out of Tibet. At the Pentagon, admiral James Curtiss learns that satellite images prove that a massive genocide is underway. This is no disease. It's a weapons test. Chinese scientists have developed a way to kill based on a person's genetic traits.

Cliche
Revisado: 11-09-20
I was hopeful for a decent story and maybe a new approach. Even without anything new, a good story is still adequate. This is trite. Seller reads Tea as a whining, weak, crying child. Damron doesn’t give her much more depth. The character as narrator is unreliable. “He said this. He felt this. But his heartstone showed me this!!!” It keeps all the characters flat and lifeless. The dual storyline left me with little interest in some of the best, but not relevant parts of Tea’s past. The foil of the bard is cliche. It’s a bathtub story in a bathtub story.
There is no resolution of conflicts from the past or the present. It feels like the author wrote a much longer book, was told to break it up, and randomly opened it to a page and ended it.
Half the book told from younger Tea’s view is a rehash of Memoirs of a Geisha. I was waiting for someone to say flat out “Hey! They’re skilled, brilliant, knowledgeable companions for gentlemen! Not just high priced hookers and greedy Mistress Parmina isn’t a madame!
