Some of the smartest commentary about what’s happening in America is coming from a comedian—this comedian being Bill Maher. If you want to understand what’s wrong with this country, it turns out that one of the best informed and most thought-provoking analysts is this very funny pothead.

Relavatory wit from the master
Revisado: 06-11-24
This is a collection of some old bits and some new bits, all under the category of sociopolitical commentary. Like everything Maher does, it is generally smart and indisputably correct or prescient. I do wish he mixed the outrage and jaded sarcasm with some lighter humor. That mix is what makes the show work. Without that mix, the sardonic wit gets annoying and overwhelming.

A must-read for anyone with a penis …
Revisado: 08-23-23
… and for anyone who enjoys them. This seminal book provides a penetrating review of the science of the penis. It focuses mainly on anatomy and erectile function. This was great. I would like to see a revised edition or a sequel that spends at least as much time and girth on the related topic of prostrate health and urination. It is rare for authors to so ably perform their own book. Dr. Spitz thrusts himself into this role and reads and writes with wit and wisdom. The book is an enjoyable and enlightening read. I highly recommend g to his stroke of genius.

Realistic and riveting
Revisado: 07-09-23
I found myself quickly engrossed in this sea novel, a move outside my normal genre choice of espionage and lone soldier novels. The detail and knowledge provided by the author made the story seem plausible throughout and it held my interest even through the romance scenes with which I could normally do without (watch it on hallmark channel if you need that stuff). This was good from cover to cover; here word to word. The narrator was not my cup of tea at the beginning. I am used to more emotion. As the story progressed, I found the voice actor’s narration to be just what this story needed. I appreciated the voices and cadence. I wish there were more choices from this author. All I see on Audible is a WWII navy set which I will probably start soon, but wishing it was something more contemporary. I highly recommend this book, especially for those who have never tried a military or sea novel.

Slow and long. Panders to a certain reader.
Revisado: 06-13-23
I am a fan of the genre. I enjoy Mitch Rapp, John Wells and other lone-heroes. This book attempts those winning formulas but it ends up as a pandering, contrived, slog of a novel.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Well written. Could do without politics.
Revisado: 06-05-23
I enjoy solo-hero thrillers and this one left me wanting more. I’ll be glad to dig in to the rest of the series. There are two things I hope change with the future books. There is too much in the way of political statements. It is gratuitous and takes away from the character of the hero. Other authors in the genre have learned this. Second, there are too many digressions into irrelevant filler. If I heard one more “Have I ever told you about my grandmother?” That would have been it for me.

Historia
Welcome to the summer of 1985 in Philadelphia, when the city was rocked—in almost every sense of the word—by two unprecedented events: Mayor W. Wilson Goode’s May 13 decision to bomb the headquarters of MOVE, a controversial Philadelphia-based radical communal organization, and the July 13 Live Aid concert, where international rock royalty convened in Philly to raise money for victims of the Ethiopian famine. Separated by just two months and eight miles, these events would showcase both the best and the worst of the so-called City of Brotherly Love.

Misleading title and poor execution
Revisado: 10-28-22
This “book” is a series of podcasts. It starts off strong with the three first chapters/podcasts but it loses steam and becomes a profile of racism in America. The topic is worthy but not when you think you have downloaded a book about live aid and the Move bombing. Hart does s nice job.

Just horrible
Revisado: 09-24-22
I wanted to like this book but there is just nothing redeeming about it. The story is shallow, contrived and jerky. What made a bad book horrible is the author interposing his political opinions. Not in character but in “neutral” narration, the author calls the Arabs “towel-heads” and other names. It did not sit right with me at all. It is not consistent with the ethic of the Navy Seals.

Marsha Sprinkle: Suitcase thief. Scammer. Master of disguise. Dogs and children hate her. Her own family wants her dead. She’s smart, she’s desperate, she’s disturbed, and she’s on the run with a big chip on her shoulder. They call her "Liarmouth"—until one insane man makes her tell the truth. John Waters's first novel, Liarmouth, is a perfectly perverted “feel-bad romance,” and the listener will thrill to hop aboard this delirious road trip of riotous revenge.

Pseudo-Intellectual B.S.
Revisado: 09-15-22
Waters’ Liarmouth had no redeeming qualities. There is literally no difference between this book a handful of feces smeared on an art gallery’s wall. In both cases, simpletons pretend to understand the “brilliant statement” being made by a provocateur. In fact, it is just crap on a wall.

Some good tips poorly read
Revisado: 08-03-22
The narrator mispronounces common Israeli places, names and other words and it takes away from the enjoyment of the book. Some quick pronunciation research would seem a pretty basic responsibility of a reader. There are good tips. It is full of nice ideas even for those who have been to Israel before. This book would have been more enjoyable to me if it were double the length with more detail on the quick tips.

A few helpful tips but a big over-reach
Revisado: 06-30-22
This book is more a saccharin Stuart Smiley self-help book than a book about being an introverted expat. There are very few tidbits of actionable information. Good audio quality and narration. Maybe worth it for the few tidbits, but I found myself fast-forwarding through 90% of the tedious and unqualified advice.
