Dreamy

The author took so much care with this story. It's very interesting and exciting to read. However, the ending felt rushed. Maybe I need to listen to it again or read a physical copy, but right now I am left wanting more. I'm excited to listen to it again in the future. Overall, the history, setting, and mythology are flawless. The main character went through a lot of growth for a sheltered young woman and I appreciated getting to hear her reason through problems and ideas.

3.5 or 4/5

I loved the narrator. She was excellent and helped the story stay interesting. I loved how she changed her voice for the different characters and her pacing was steady.
The story was ok. It was interesting, if predictable, with loveable background characters and an exciting ending. I love the author's effortless writing style and expansive creativity.
I couldn't connect to the main female character, Carlota. Her personality seemed to change sporadically and I didn't like her at some points. She was very inconsistent. She swung from bratty and spoiled to weepy and gentle to passionate and fiery. She felt like a different person off and on. The main male character, Montgomery, was more my speed, however, I don't like how he fell in love with the much younger Carlota.
This IS a good book, but I feel like Carlota could have been so much more.

recommendation

There is enough material for a whole series instead of one big book. It would have been nice to explore the little details- The leisure of watching character development and time pass. However jam-packed, this book is worth reading. The characters are special, whether they are likeable or not. The only romance we follow is between two amazing, powerful women; I'm really thankful the author didn't try to force more relationships. What the book has is exactly what it needs. By allowing this one romance to be at the heart of the story I was quietly warmed by the representation and the assumed societal acceptance of LGBTQ+ relationships.

High hopes
Revisado: 10-29-20
There are a lot of pieces within this story that I loved. Unfortunately, as a whole I wasn't blown away or compelled to finish, even though I eventually did. I also had a difficult time getting used to the narrator. Her voice and way of performing made things kinda cheesy for me and I thought she'd be better at other reading levels, like children's books- which isn't bad. I simply didn't think her way of narrating meshed with the story. I had high hopes but they weren't completely met.

Historia
There came an elastic aftershock of creaks and groans and then, softly softly, a chinking shower of rubbled cement. Leaves calmed and trunks stood serene. Where, not a minute before, there had been a suburb, there was now only woodland standing amid ruins. There is no warning. No chance to prepare. They arrive in the night: thundering up through the ground, transforming streets and towns into shadowy forest. Buildings are destroyed.

The Trees
Revisado: 01-12-19
This book shattered all my expectations. Everything I thought would happen shifted and where some authors may end, the story continued, surprising me with what was still in store.
The main characters became very important to me. Adrian in particular seemed to represent how difficult mental illness can be and how difficult it is to live with such burdens. I understood him well and liked how his journey ended ( and ultimately began). Everything came together perfectly, in my opinion, and I relish listening again in the future.
The author has truly created a treasure.
