Historia
Innovations rarely come from “experts.” Elon Musk was not an “electric car person” before he started Tesla. When it comes to improbable innovations, a legendary tech VC told Sebastian Mallaby, the future cannot be predicted, it can only be discovered. It is the nature of the venture-capital game that most attempts at discovery fail, but a very few succeed at such a scale that they more than make up for everything else. That extreme ratio of success and failure is the power law that drives the VC business, all of Silicon Valley, the wider tech sector, and, by extension, the world.

If you want context and a history on how we got to where we are today in 2024 this book is an invaluable resource in your toolbox. This book identifies the major player and strategies employed by VC across 5 decades. Overall a great book, my next read after this will be Planet VC by Phillips and Dibiasio.

I’m a big fan of systems and this book has a great one to get started. Then you can tweak it to your needs and the market. Definitely a hidden gem among a sea of repeated information about commercial real estate investment.

Paradigm Shifting
Revisado: 01-02-23
This book will change your frame of reference when it comes to measuring your growth. It will also help you eliminate that natural habit to compare yourself and others around you to an ideal that is an illusions. One of the most important ideas released for those looking to be peak performers.

This is a great study on how private equity has developed from the early days of junk bond financing to calculated bets on legal interpretations which seems to be the current method of generating huge returns…or losses.

Good Primer on Early Black Entrepreneurs
Revisado: 12-11-22
I enjoyed the book and the author did the best with what could be found. It did feel a bit rushed on certain individuals profiled such a William leidesdorff Jr. Overall a great primer for someone looking to get started on the topic of black history and entrepreneurship.

But making money with real estate is often seen as a slow and lengthy process that requires a large upfront investment. Many investors - especially younger ones - want instant gratification.

The production could have been better, but the content is what really mattered. This is one of the few books that will give you actionable tactics, not advertised by main stream investment text if you’re willing to listen and apply what the author has written about you can stand out from your competitors in the now overcrowded market of real estate investment.

Are you a critical thinker? Then get this book!
Revisado: 11-07-22
There may be some reviews that say Ray is Chinese propaganda mouth piece but this book is hardly that. It highlights the general concepts of cycle based nations and economics. The same framework used by Howard Marks of OakTree capital. Yes he does have strong social and business ties with China but it didn’t Bias the book.
This is a great series Ray is putting together like Nassim Taleb’s Incerto. If you can hold two opposing ideas and judge the merit of their validity then please don’t let the negative reviews dissuade you from getting this book.

Real Insights With Value
Revisado: 05-11-22
I’m a real estate agent with only 2.5 years under my belt. I got my license to make money to invest I real estate deals. After reading so many books on the topic this one blends real world experiences, strategic practices and tactical methods for doing deals. As a Florida based agent when he mentioned our state contracts developed by real estate attorneys known as FARBAR, I knew he was legit. Most if not all authors lack such specificity when it comes to laying out what factors go into real world deals with out getting caught up in the academic side of the business.
When you’re brain is ready to receive the powerful message within this book you will know it like a light switch that gets turned on. It happened for me and I know I’m on the right track. This is the way…

Soak It Up
Revisado: 12-31-20
You need to be in full sponge mode when you listen to this. Understand that it’s one piece of the treasure map and it’s key that you read the others to understand the big picture. It can be cheesy at times but the fundamental message is clear and Mike make it easy to understand with many great examples that are re-examined in this 2020 reading. Also sad to hear about Luke. Great book if you are ready to understand how great companies are built by focusing on great customers.
