Historia
The time is 1933, the place, Berlin, when William E. Dodd becomes America’s first ambassador to Hitler’s Germany in a year that proved to be a turning point in history. A mild-mannered professor from Chicago, Dodd brings along his wife, son, and flamboyant daughter, Martha. At first Martha is entranced by the parties and pomp, and the handsome young men of the Third Reich with their infectious enthusiasm for restoring Germany to a position of world prominence. Enamored of the “New Germany,” she has one affair after another....

Not good for audible
Revisado: 07-08-12
This provided way more in written form. The story itself is decent, but just does not make for a good audible.

Classic
Revisado: 07-08-12
I had forgotten all about this book. It is a true classic -- all the new "end-day" stories are old considering this was written in the early 60s.

Get the abridged version!
Revisado: 04-24-12
What disappointed you about The Hellfire Club?
Way too long! I got bored half way through -- but was determined to finished it. The abridged version probably would have been just long enough. I generally like Straub, but this was not one of his best. Plus the narrator's tone and diction was not a good match. At first I thought I was listening to some kind of comedy or children's book -- he sounded like Winnie the Pooh.
Would you ever listen to anything by Peter Straub again?
Probably
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Patrick Lawlor?
Not sure of a name, but someone with a deeper timbor than Lawlor.
You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Some - just too long.

Revisado: 03-03-12
Would you try another book from Dean Koontz and/or Peter Berkrot?
I like Koontz and the narration was super. But this was way too much like the final Frankenstein. Koontz could have gotten the story told in a much shorter time.
Has 77 Shadow Street turned you off from other books in this genre?
no
Was 77 Shadow Street worth the listening time?
It could have done half the time

Too hard to get in to and get started
Revisado: 02-19-11
I listened for over an hour and could not get into the story plot... too much stuff at first with references to past -- with no past story line to shore it up. Was lost and the story line was not strong enough to hold my interest. I felt it was a sequal and I should have read or listened to a Part I somewhere.
