Note: This audio book is narrated in Mandarin.

This is the best Chinese biographical novel based on the greatest emperor of China: Qing dynasty's Kang Xi. The author (Er Yue-He) used historical facts as the backbone of the story. A small part of fiction and romance are added to spice up the book.

This is the 4th and last book of the series, it is also the most exciting with breath-taking political intrigues among the princes, all vying for the throne.

In 1999, China CCTV made a 44 episodes television series based on this book and the author's Yong Zheng series to cover the life of Qing emperor Yong Zheng. The series occupied CCTV-1 prime time slot; after its premiere, there have been many re-runs of the show on television networks in mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. It was one of the most watched television series in China, with the highest TV rating, and remains one of the "classics" among Chinese historical television dramas.

My only dislike about this audio book is the 1 minute introduction of the book which is repeated in every of the 70 chapters. It is disruptive and irritating to listen or to skip the 1 minute introduction every 23 minutes, for 70 times.
One star off an almost perfect audio book.
