Great story but disappointed in new narration

I loved the books and previous audible and thought the new narration must be even better, it’s not. The narration is good but where are all the accents? Most of the characters are very old and have lived most of their lives outside the US and yet they all sound too watered down to make them easily distinguishable or interesting.
Unfortunately, after an hour of waiting to be presently surprised i ended up returning this version and will continue to enjoy the older version.

A word of caution

I’m only a few hours in but feel compelled to offer a warning, the subject matter with the performance and writing wouldn’t allow me to distance myself from the action in the first few chapters and I had to take a break. Be prepared to be triggered. I have no history with shootings but it has become such a clear and present danger you can’t help feeling yourself and family in the incident. I will definitely finish the book, but it will take time.

If only the main character remained unconscious.

I’m sorry to say I could not finish this title. The main female was not likable or sympathetic at all, I knew I couldn’t finish this story when I found myself disappointed that she woke up after being injured, the story was better when she was unconscious. I tried to imagine the vocal inflection performed differently thinking maybe the performance was making the character seem overly annoying but I wasn’t able to sustain this attitude long enough to finish listening.

A Glaring Problem.

This is the first book in the series but with a novella taking place before it, I enjoyed the story and the narrator’s skill in both. The huge problem I have is the sound editing. Throughout the recording the sound quality is bad, it’s like you are on the phone and the person you’re talking to keeps walking to different rooms, settling for most of the book in a shower stall. I tried several devices and settings but couldn’t make this less distracting. The other flaw are the corrections, every audiobook has them, it’s expected something will have to be rerecorded and there will be slight variations, it shouldn’t sound like you handed the phone to your sister in a different room to redo your line. Despite the distraction and annoyance, I enjoyed the story and will purchase the next audiobook title in the series and hope for the best.

Enjoyable story. Different twists, but very long.

I liked this book but....there were a few times where it seemed like it could (and should) end, but it didn't. It could easily have been 2 books. The American accents and especially pitch of the narration were distracting at times but the inflection was good. I want to listen to the following titles in the series but I'm not sure I have the stamina, they are longer!

I new what to expect from the story and knew within the first few minutes that the narrator couldn't pull it off. I stopped listening and decided to try the book.I found the books entertaining for a summer beach read but would not recommend the audio version unless the reader really loved the books and wanted the extra experience.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator was a bad choice. Her accent was distracting when Merry's character grew up in America. Her portrayal of the other characters was muddled, without deep emotion, and why would most of the support characters have English accents?

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Wrong voice for such strong male characters and poor interpritation of the material. The narrators interpritation of the female lead makes the character seem disjointed while the male demon/vampire lead comes off tame.

What character would you cut from Passion Unleashed?

None. I have read the series and enjoyed it.
