Historia
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

I loved his previous work but this one just wasn't good. The star is a first day FBI agent who acts like he's been an agent for years. It's crazy how it's barely mentioned by anyone that this dude is in his very first week on the job yet he's some kind of super sleuth.
And even then, he's not. Him and his partner aren't even the stars here. That roommate that he luckily found for some reason because he wanted to move out on his own but still have a real apartment, was the actual hero.
For all the drama of the virus, this was really just a cyber crime solved by a computer guy. The FBI ran around pointlessly and didn't really get anything accomplished. Every time they checked in with their tech buddy, he was another step closer to solving the case.
The characters weren't developed at all. The main character is a trope. Rich kid who grows up rich and uber priveledged who wants to break away and live like he's not rich. That's never been talked about before. Ever.
His partner, who is the senior agent but is somehow relegated to be the junior agent behind our hero the rookie, is just an alcoholic sex addict. That's her character.
The add on couple of hours were just a copy of World War Z's history of the zombie outbreak.

Historia
Now, for the first time, Seth Godin offers the core of his marketing wisdom in one compact, accessible, and timeless package. This Is Marketing shows you how to do work you're proud of, whether you're a tech start-up founder, a small-business owner, or part of a large corporation. Great marketers don't use consumers to solve their company's problem; they use marketing to solve other people's problems. Their tactics rely on empathy, connection, and emotional labor instead of attention-stealing ads. When done right, marketing seeks to make change in the world.

Buy the print version
Revisado: 12-26-18
The information in the book is pretty decent. It gives a good overview for anyone who is not terribly familiar with marketing and wants a general understanding of what goes on in that department.
I highly recommend that you buy the print version of this book. The author narrates his own book and in some cases, that is a good idea. Here though? It isn't. I could barely make it through listening to him talk soooooooooooo slooooooooooooooowly and in a near monotone. If you have trouble sleeping, put this book on at night and you'll be out in no time. If you are one of those people who likes to listen to audio books on your drive to and from work, DON'T DO IT! You'll be a danger on the road because you are likely to fall asleep behind the wheel.

It's an ok book. I read fiction from time to time to take a break and just have a mindless escape. If that's what you are looking for, this book will work. It's decent enough to keep you through to the end even though you know the steps all the way through of what is going to happen.
I am positive that Mike Meyers hasn't listened to the audio book because if he did, he would definitely have a problem with the narrator's voice for Hook Hobie. Dr. Evil anyone?

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

I Can't Believe I Made it all the Way Through
Revisado: 07-24-18
Imagine my surprise when I got to the end of this book and there wasn't a code of some kind for a prize. I assumed given how bad this book was that it was some kind of a test and those who were most determined and able to put up with it to get to the end would be rewarded. When that didn't happen, I was incredibly disappointed. That means this book wasn't a test or a hazing ritual of some kind. The author was serious.
I was tricked in to buying this book by the reviews that praised this book. I am frankly stunned at the number of people who thought this book was so good or who thought that any of the dialogue from the dues ex machina was funny. How many times can the AI refer to humans as monkeys or keep telling the star of the book, Joe Bishop who himself is terrible, how much smarter he is than everyone in the whole universe?
On that matter, how many times does Bishop have to question whether or the deus ex machina is capable of doing something? Act after miraculous act was performed right in front of Bishop and yet still he is incredulous any time Skippy, yes that is the deus ex machina's name, tells him about some power that he forgot to tell him about until right up to the time you think everyone is going to die but the Skippy remembers oh right, I can fix that.
The main character is so unlikable and so incredibly dumb as to defy all logic and reasoning. Just what exactly is a theater promotion any way? Was that even mentioned when he was promoted in the first place? Did anyone mention to him on his way back to earth that he only had theater rank or was it something Bishop made up because at all times he could not ever wait to not be in charge of anything and was constantly looking for someone else to take charge? Then he gets back to earth and while he puts on sergeant stripes, everyone still treats him like he's in charge and basically still a colonel until the moment they decide to promote him back to colonel anyway.
Oh and for the narrator. He did a pretty good job but for the love of all that is holy, please someone tell him how to say DFAC. You do not say each word individually. It's said as a two-syllable word, dee-phack. Man that was annoying.
There was so much wrong with this book that I could go on and on about but I think my point is made for how I felt about it.
For the record though, if this book was written by a kid and is intended to be YA sci-fi, then I apologize. If this was an adult trying to write an actual sci-fi book, then maybe he should think about writing YA instead.

Eye Opening and Helpful
Revisado: 04-26-17
What did you love best about Chief Marketing Officers at Work?
I fell in to the role of CMO at our company as we were growing from start up to mid-size business. I've been in the role for a couple of years now and we've continued to grow but I could never shake the feeling that I really had no idea at all what I was doing. I didn't come from a marketing background and I didn't have any training or experience in marketing. I've always wondered what CMO's at the big companies do every day and what am I not doing? CMO's at work gave me a glimpse in to their world. It helped me to relax and understand that there isn't a set path that anyone is following. Some of the CMO's interviewed were similar to me and had landed in their roles from varied backgrounds.
It was great to hear how they organized teams. It was great hearing about some of the things they were focused on and what worried them. It was a relief to hear from these established professionals that they have the same struggles and that the problems they are trying to tackle are the same ones we all face.
in short, the book was an eye opening relief. I am so glad I found this book. It has changed my outlook on my role. I highly recommend this for anyone who is new in the CMO role or for those hoping to get in to that role one day in the future.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Listening to the CMO from Quiznos. Hearing her talk about the importance of the relationship between the CMO and Operations connected with me. It's an area of struggle for me.

Historia
Historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Barbara Tuchman here brought to life again the people and events that led up to World War I. With attention to fascinating detail, and an intense knowledge of her subject and its characters, Ms. Tuchman reveals, for the first time, just how the war started, why, and why it could have been stopped but wasn't. A classic historical survey of a time and a people we all need to know more about, The Guns of August will not be forgotten.

Love the book, disliked the narration
Revisado: 02-03-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would not recommend this audio book for two reasons. It's a ton of information to digest in audible form. I think I'm going to go back and actually read this book. I couldn't keep the information straight as I was listening.
Second, the narrator was really a distraction. The accents he was using really were not necessary and should not have been used. I found myself getting more and more irritated and was focused more on whichever accent he had just switched to rather than actually listening to the story.
