I loved the setup and the characters here. the world leans into the uncanny valley territory: what's similar to our world and what's different makes no sense, but could have made a lot more sense if handled with just a bit more care. However, the story's engaging place and charm compensate for the world-building incongruities.

The narration is excellent and I much prefer this book in the audio format.

The series continues full steam ahead and I continue to love the narration.

The only voice that was hard to understand was the felix's, but there are only a few lines for him here. If it changes in future books, a different approach to this character narration might be needed.

The narration really brings this book to life, and I think it's the best way to enjoy this series.

The sound effects on this book sounded way over the top and amateurish. The voice actors are wonderful and they saved the whole production.

The book itself was better than I was expecting, but it is too short both as a book itself and in terms of the internal time of the narrative - not enough to get to know these characters or start imagining a future for them.

I could hardly make sense of the book. the narrator is worse than the text-to-speech artificial voices!
Every single sentence is read with the exact same inflection and a combination of rushed words and prolonged pauses between them - she sounds like a caricature of a robot. It's one of the absolute worst narrations I have encountered so far on Audible.

The story itself is interesting in its world building aspects, but very much unfinished - it ends in the equivalent of "mid sentence" and it's very clear that the different books in the series are not intended as separate books, but more like chapters of the same book. I would dearly hope that the second book picks up right where this one left off. Personally, I hate when authors do that, so I will not be reading any more books in this series or by this author.

I very much regret purchasing this audiobook. The book doesn't deserve any support in either of its forms.

Horrible, breathy narration with every sentence ending on the same high tone. An artificial text-to-speech reading would have been both preferable and easier to listen to!

The narrator goes completely over the top in this book. It's exhausting to listen to her. It seemed like she screamed out the entire book at the top of her voice with maximum screech. Not only that, but this hyperactive performance is at odds with the story. The first person narrator character in the book is emotional, but also comfortable with silence and the quiet of everyday.
This is one of those rare cases when I would recommend the accessibility text to speech robotic app voices more than the actual audio book.

The book itself is a good coming of age story about learning to deal with change.

This narrator has a disgustingly affected manner of reading. An inflection-less reading by a synthesized voice of a text-to-speech app would have been much better than this pompous breathy weirdly inflected performance. As exemplified by his reading of the credits, the narrator is capable of normal speech, but for some unfathomable reason chooses to abandon it during his reading "performance". It almost made me give up on the book and was distracting and annoying the whole time.

The story was fun and engaging, although very typical and predictable.

This is a weird mixture of seemingly unconnected stories and formats. The last one was especially strange and not in a good way.

It sounded like someone had put together practice takes and audition reels and released it as an audio book...

Contrived story with manufactured drama.

The story wasn't very interesting or engaging mainly because there was major psychological disconnect between who the characters were set up to be and their behavior on the page. The events and conflicts within the story were also clearly manufactured by the author to her ends which were telegraphed well in advance. All of that added up to the whole book feeling superficial, fake and simplistic. Kind of like poorly constructed elementary school show stage sets. Pretty much the only good thing about it is the absence of long gratuitous sex scenes, although it almost went there a couple of times, but thankfully those were false alarms.

The narrators were great, but the production decisions were strange in that it was hard to tell why the voices changed from male to female especially in the third person narrative. It felt almost random at times and was distracting.
