disappointing ramblings

I so enjoyed the earlier books in this series but Out of Hounds, and the book just prior, focus far too much on the non -applicable ramblings, complaining , and philosophizing among old/dear/elderly friends, and far less on a captivating mystery. The emphasis on early Covid pandemic confusion added to the wearisome dialogs.
I am a horsewoman, an animal (esp birds, horses, dogs, and foxes) lover, a mystery lover, and of a similar age to the author & Sister Jane. Earlier books in this series were tailor made for me, but not these latest.

cute but completely predictable, almost sappy, romance story with brief exaggerated dramas with easily-anticipated outcomes. I read as part of book club, otherwise I doubt I would have finished it.

straightforward

pretty basic in terms of character development and storyline. good enough to finish but maybe not pursue next in series

good background book. his read-aloud stories are interesting enough to entertain, but i can walk away and come back a few minutes later without worrying about missing any key info.

surely a dip in an otherwise great series

I made it to chapter 9 but really ... all of the political and social issue opinions, pointless chit chat between characters, and Fox Hunting 101 explanations do nothing to develop a good story. instead, these things are distracting and a dull. I hope we see another book in the Sister Jane series that gets back to exciting rides and grand who-dun-its.

dare I say over-sexed and short on plausibility and mystery or intrigue. headed towards the trashy romance fiction genre

I started this series with strong interest, but am finding myself a bit impatient with sappy interludes in the action. fine to mix romance in with mystery, but too often in this case, the romantic reflections bring the story to crawl.

slower paced, and far more predictable than others in the series. the main character's many points of self reflection only served to slow it down more, and make her seem dull. I liked the earlier books enough to give one more a try in hopes the next one is more engaging

not one of Karen White's better storylines

I'm a real fan of White's writing, but was disappointed in the characters and storyline of this particular book.
