Slow and breathy narrator
Revisado: 05-04-25
This review is primarily for the audio version. I have this book in print and purchased the audio so I could continue reading it by listening as I drove. The narrator who read the part of Skye read extremely slow and I kept having to bump up the speed. It was very annoying and took away from an excellent storyline. I do not plan to listen to a book narrated by that person again.

Historia
After years of dancing in Mumbai’s bars, Tara Mondal was desperate for a new start. So when a client offered her a life-changing payout to indulge a harmless, if odd, fantasy, she accepted. The setup was simple: wear a blue-sequined saree, enter a crowded railway station, and escape from view in less than three minutes. It was the last time anyone saw Tara.

Great Storyline
Revisado: 01-09-23
This well -written mystery kept me reading late into the night this weekend and I loved it! I can’t remember ever reading a mystery set in India, so I really enjoyed the glimpse into a foreign land! This story contains inner-office politics, cold murder cases, mysterious disappearances, and regrets of a long lost love. It unfolds through multiple timelines and points-of-view, including the perspective of the unknown murderer. Somewhere along the way I started figuring a few things out, and that only added to my enjoyment of this mystery! I will definitely be reading book 2 when it comes out later in 2023! I often combine both reading and listening to a book. However, I recommend just reading this one. I personally found the accent to be confusing when saying the names of the characters. With so many characters with similar sounding names, I found the audio version to be quite confusing.
My thanks to @damyantig @amazonpublishing @letstalkbookspromo for my digital copy. (I bought the audio version myself.) My thoughts are my own.

Did Not Enjoy
Revisado: 02-03-22
This is the story of Caro, who impulsively leaves her husband and children behind and drives across the country to find an old love, from a relationship that was never going to work. She went to college during the free love period of the sixties. As she drives across the country she reminisces about multiple sexual encounters in explicit detail. I did not enjoy listening to this. About halfway through I skipped to the last few chapters just to see how she resolved her situation. I cannot recommend this story if you don’t enjoy listening to nonstop lewd descriptions.

Small Town Mystery
Revisado: 02-28-21
When I first read other reviews that this was a “cozy” mystery, I was intrigued. This story takes place in a small town. The main character, Katie, is a doctor, fairly new to the town. When one of her patients dies mysteriously, Katie feels compelled to look further into the death. Despite threatening notes and a few close calls with danger, Katie interviews town members and soon begins to unwind a mystery that touches the lives of several people. There were no curse words or bloody scenes. It really was a refreshing and “cozy” mystery. I look forward to more from this author.

Kept Me Guessing!
Revisado: 01-22-21
I am always on the lookout for a good mystery that keeps me guessing until the end, and Hide Away by Jason Pinter did just that! Rachel Marin is a woman with a secret. She brings her two children to a small Midwestern town to blend in and live an ordinary and safe life. Yet Rachel has a desire to right some wrongs and she soon involves herself in the quest to solve a town murder. The police reluctantly admit she is right about several clues, but then they begin to suspect her. Rachel has some suspicions of her own and they lead her to trouble and a surprising conclusion. The storyline is well developed. The author does an excellent job weaving Rachel’s past throughout the book so the reader gradually learn more about what motivates Rachel. The main characters are likable. I listened to this on Audible and the reader does a fantastic job. I enjoyed the way she was able to adapt her voice to the different characters. I can’t wait to read more by this author!

Good Plot Twist
Revisado: 01-17-21
Shalini Boland is an author I definitely keep on my watchlist. I always enjoy a good thriller, especially if they keep me guessing. The Girl from the Sea has a great plot that caught my attention from the beginning. I enjoyed reading how the main character slowly started learning more about herself. I would love to have seen the storyline developed further, with more depth to the characters, and even more detail as the MC unraveled her past. I didn’t really like Mia, or any of the other characters. When this book was compared to The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl I immediately predicted the ending; however, there was an interesting plot twist. This book was relatively short but it kept me engaged.

Not my Favorite!
Revisado: 01-12-21
I realize I am in the minority but I just did not enjoy this book. I kept pushing through it, hoping that I would reach a point where things changed and I would love it. Instead, I didn’t think this story would ever end! thought there were too many characters and too many storylines. I never felt an emotional buy-in to the characters. While I did enjoy the author’s wit that was evident throughout the book, I will not be reading anymore from this author

Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

Interesting Memoir
Revisado: 11-29-20
I enjoyed listening to this story and getting a glimpse into the lifestyle of the British aristocracy. I thought it was appropriate that the author read her work as it reminded me of listening to my grandmother describing her memories.
