Historia
Dante and Blays have forced Gladdic from the Collen Basin. But the victory might be only the first battle in a much larger war. With the land on the brink of starvation and politically fractured, Dante and Blays scramble to secure Collen's food, borders, and allies. Before their work is done, rumor arrives from Mallon. The enemy is mustering for another attack. Even if Collen can weather the coming storm, there's no guarantee their independence will last out the year.

Addictive

Masterful storytelling. This series is the standard from which all other fantasy novels should be judged. This one is in my top 3 series of all time.

Not the best narrator.
Revisado: 08-26-19
Read this book many times in the 80s and 90s. Completely awesome. The narrator had problems pronouncing many words well known to fans and did his Afrikaner accent with a Scottish brogue, ugh!

Amazing
Revisado: 02-14-19
The final book did not disappoint! Awesome read. Filled with surprises, laughs, and even a few tears. Amazing performance. Adventure so vivid, it feels like you're there, without boring commentary by characters that slows down other adventure novels. Ex: A deep underground sea that glows? Inhabited with sea goblin pirates? That eat people? Oh yes please!

A good history lesson, but...
Revisado: 09-22-18
This was more of a history lesson of the rigorous hardships of WWII. Very little of Smith's normal adventure or Courtney flair. Not a bad read, but it left me feeling like I had attended a lecture. None of the cruelty of the fictional characters was avenged, which is a large part of what makes Smith's novels so satisfying to me. It ended abruptly, unabashedly aimed at selling the next book, which is a shame.

Stop the cheezy sound effects
Revisado: 04-14-18
I've heard better acting and accents from children. It almost spoils the book. The story was ok, exactly what you'd expect, but they added the most EMBARRASSING sound effects and "dramatic" music. STOP THAT!

Ended too abruptly
Revisado: 07-16-17
I was expecting some kind of conclusion to this novel. The abrupt ending was a terrible let down. It was in very poor taste and uncharacteristic of Smith's style. I have come to understand that he has forfeited his current works to ghost writers and he simply puts his name on the cover. It was like the power went out in the theatre halfway through the movie. Very disappointing.
