I am a fan of Burt and I enjoyed the stories. But Burt narrating the audio book himself was a mistake. Sorry. It’s true. No offense.

First off, this audiobook is a prime example of the importance of a good narrator. It can make or break a book or it can just kind of drag it down. In this case the latter is true. I really enjoyed the story. It was well written and the details were well constructed without going too far. But the narration tried to undercut the entire production. Unfortunate. But Edward Lee is a great author. So the story withstood the narration issues.

I have enjoyed the continuing and evolving story Mr Lee has written. As usual there is the odd character here or there who are quite annoying. This time it was Ruth. While Ruth may have completed the job set forth she nonetheless spent the entire story pissing me off! I get it. She’s under educated and a sinner in life and a tough cookie. But it did get annoying after awhile. The constant F this F that and her ridiculous reactions to many things. Ugh! Enough! But she didn’t take away from the overall story. I enjoyed this story more than the 1st two stories. The story was just better. I’ll continue as long as the story does. I’m all in now.

While I enjoyed the first book I have to say that the second book was much better. Less Hokey. And it didn’t have an entire book filled with that Viy character. Walters voice is not much of a joy to listen to but it’s not so bad as to take away from the great story. Cassi and her damn obtuseness can get old but it’s not as bad as book 1. Overall I was very entertained and the story went to a place I never expected. Good. I didn’t want to be right. I wanted to be surprised. Mission accomplished.

The only drawback were a couple of the narrators character voices. They could be somewhat annoying but overall it didn’t really take away from the overall job. I love listening to writers interpretations of how Hell is. The landscape, the monsters, souls and what happens to them and all the rest. Listening to descriptions of what happens to certain souls or the eternal sufferings of beings and the inventive ways they will spend eternity. The topography. The politics. Socialization. Just love that stuff. Even for fiction some of the things seemed far fetched or a little convenient but that’s storytelling I guess. The overall story is good and add in the horrors of hell and it makes for a good listen. Overall I am very happy with the book.

I really enjoyed this listen. I love Claptons music and always will despite listening to the stories about his love life and how he was raised. Yikes! The way he treated women, especially after he was able to win them over, made me angry. In the case of Patti Boyd I found myself angry at him and at Ms Boyd. Even at George Harrison. Eric’s early life was such a shame. The way he was cast off early by his own mother after not knowing his father, who bailed out right away. What happened after that with his mother is just a real shame. And you can correlate the way he was treated at a young age with how he treated women and others after growing up. A man who would become obsessed beyond normalcy only to shut down after he was able to win over a woman or able to own something in particular. It started young and stayed with him. I felt bad and angry all at the same time. It’s worth the listen and I dare you not to be angry at his behavior and to not be bothered by how enabled and coddled this man really was. This refers to the Clapton Luck. The Clapton luck is real but it wasn’t always luck. A lot of times it was being coddled and enabled. Nothing new in a rock stars life but Clapton was enabled and coddled beyond all others I’ve read about. It still doesn’t diminish the overall genius that he really is. He may not be God as some say but he plays like he’s been touched by God.

If ur a fan of the GD and ur expecting a chronological translation of the GF story then this isn’t for u. This is about Bill Kreutzmann and his journey, his words and his experiences. And he wrote it like u might tell a story to people sitting around a fire. Just tell stories of your life. Jump ahead here go back there and repeat but stay on point. I love everything GD. So I’ll listen to them all. How do I dump on a story told by the man who lived it? The narrator takes a bit or getting used to. At first I found his voice annoying. But I got used to it and just went with the story. By the end I appreciated the narration. And Bills story. The GD and Bill Kreutzmann are an institution and a part of history that can never be duplicated. Just enjoyed and remembered fondly. And the trips along the way. Altogether a good book. Aloha!

I enjoyed this immensely. What I meant about invoking anger is the constant mentioning of tensions with almost all 4 members. This also makes Neil Young look like the most frustrating, narcissistic music man ever! Idk if that is true but how this book was written makes him seem that way and it made me angry at parts. At Young. U will be mad at all of them at some point. That’s how these things go but the way this reads shows Young as the boss and driving force when he decided the time was right and forced things to be his way or he would walk. His abandoning of several projects and tours midway is just infuriating. But this book also goes heavily into the making of the music and interpretations of many of their songs and albums. These were 4 amazing men who did things that will stand forever and I love much of it. David Crosby died mid listen so this took on a more sobering feel. Especially when it came to tensions with Crosby and Nash. Best friends for decades only to fall apart in their 70s. As of this year I do believe they reconciled doing music together so that makes me feel better. Having a friend die and not having made things right is painful. I’m glad that didn’t happen here. If you r a fan then read or listen. U won’t be disappointed.

If there are any out there that find the book to be long winded with too much information crammed into each chapter then you would be right and wrong. It all depends on the listener. Personally I found this to be a wonderful work. Yes, there are times when the information was a bit watered down or abstract. But this was a grand telling of a wonderful story. I am especially thankful for the details given to the work the band(s) did in studio with a wealth of information about almost each song being put on record. It gives a whole new meaning to the works. Most notably Darl Side of the Moon and The Wall. I don’t think that the author was trying to trash Roger Waters but instead explain just how he was and how he was interpreted by all including his band mates. Let’s just say that Roger Waters comes off as one of the bigger dbags in music history. But he also came off as one of the most brilliant songwriters and producers of albums and stage productions in rock history. And his band mates agreed despite all of the bad blood. Waters’ spite and ego are in full display and authentic by video and audio recordings through the years. He was a genius and knew it well and had no problem telling his band mates that. I can see not wanting to deal with that but at the same time wanting to because of the finished product. And the money and fame it brought them. They know it and freely admit as much. If you want a full detailed understanding of Pink Floyd and the players around then, including spouses and corporate suits, then this is the ultimate work. I loved this book. The detail to me was priceless and so entertaining. Wonderful!

Robby Krieger says it best!

Of all of the stories I have heard and books I’ve read, Krieger captures best how I would feel and what I envisioned. Not to say that Ray Manzarek or John Densmore didn’t right truth, but Krieger writes in such a way as to not sugarcoat events as much as he didn’t overthink or over analyze things with a jaded perspective. Perhaps the bad blood between Densmore and Manzarek left them jaded and led their writing to be less about the positive and more about the negatives of being in the Doors and especially Jim Morrison. Densmores take on Morrison seemed to more personal with anger being his focus. Each had different relationships with Jim so who am I to slight any of these guys for their takes. But Kriegers seemed most genuine and most realistic. RKs heart seemed to be more on display with this book than others who have written about The Doors and members of the band and the life. Best book about the Doors hands down. Thank you Robby Krieger for this book and the great stories. And thanks for the music! Greatest music to come out of that era. And don’t trash the post Jim work too badly. There are some great works there. I thoroughly enjoyed Other Voices and An American Dream was excellent work. Loved it! This is a great book and if u love the Doors then this is a must read. A kudos to the narrator. Great read by Dennis Boutsikaris. Well done by all.
