Tensions are at a breaking point. The Western markets that once relied on Russian gas have turned to Israel for their energy needs. Furious at this interference in its control over the West, Russia demands that Israel stop its defensive military strikes against Iranian weapons transported into Syria. Weapons Israel knows are meant for the annihilation of their country.

The performance was the high point.
Revisado: 07-25-23
I read books so that I can enjoy a story. I like that Gabriel Allon’s character has matured. I like the family dynamic that now exists. I love traveling vicariously with him. I DO NOT like the not so subtle way that Daniel Silva inserts his obvious social and political biases into plots and characters. It’s lazy, vulgar, and utterly lacks creativity and complexity. Even if I agree with stated biases in certain cases, i just want to listen to good stories with clever plots and well drawn characters, NOT get pounded over the head with barely veiled virtue signaling! It’s very much like hearing an instrument hit a sour note. And then another. The listener can no longer just relax and lose themselves in the music. They are now waiting for the next cringe…

Historia
If you want to disappear, start again, make a new life, a small Irish village is probably not the wisest place to go, since anonymity is not something we do well here. The arrival of someone new is always a cause for twitching curtains and whispered conversations. But here, like everywhere, people have their secrets, and as the local sergeant, I’m expected to have my eyes peeled for anything unusual.

If I want social commentary, I’ll read a blog

The narrator saved this one.
The social and environmental agenda makes this book a slog. If I had to listen to it in an American accented narration, I would want my money back!
I’m not even in disagreement with most of what the author is portraying. I just want to listen to a good story that doesn’t try so dang hard to tick PC boxes.

Story a little too heavy on social commentary
Revisado: 07-02-23
My favorite part of this book was the narrator. Stellar job.
The characters were very well drawn.
I am simply weary of modern sensibilities being so glibly inserted into “historical fiction.” I lived during the 60’s and 70’s. There WAS a great deal of upheaval, pushing of social norms, tragedy, disillusionment, and change.
That said, an abortion in small town Iowa would have been SO MUCH more loaded than portrayed in this book.
Phrases like “white men will always stand with white men” is just lazy writing.
The author goes out of her way, to her credit, to create nuanced plots, characters, and dialogue and then, BAM. We the readers are clubbed over the head with a motto that isn’t even fit for a bumper sticker.
Tell a story.

Finally, a well written book involving faith, espionage, plot, and characters!
Revisado: 03-31-23
In this second book, the authors have hit their stride. I loved the levity in the interaction among the team. That element is almost entirely absent in all books of this genre. I laughed out loud more than once. This made the gravity in the plot all the more sobering. Also, bravo on weaving together a complex, multi-event story. And now, I must wait for the next book…

Heart without schmaltz.
Revisado: 04-14-20
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the presence of a few too many course words.
While the utterance of the ‘f-bomb’ is a very affective tool in swiftly establishing a character, the author leans a bit too far into it.
