Historia
Thomas Penrose is a village doctor in rural Cornwall. Popular with patients and friends alike, and handsome into the bargain, he lives in a romantic clifftop tower by the sea. It's a wonderful life - if only Dr. Tom could enjoy it. He's a veteran of the conflict in Afghanistan, fighting a lonely battle against alcoholism and PTSD. Determined not to inflict his troubles on anyone else, Tom keeps himself to himself. But fate has other ideas, and brings a handsome surfer crashing to his feet after a dreadful wipe-out on Porth Beach.

Beautifully written with real depth
Revisado: 01-22-25
And also has a very engaging, page-turner of a climax. This is maybe my favorite by this author, tied with Seven Summer Nights (less spooky fantasy weirdness in this one, though I don't mind that in her other books). Beautifully written characters with real emotional depth, a satisfying baddie, believable blocks and plot twists - because they are really true to the motives of the characters - and just enough over the top, oh come on suspension of disbelief required to get the pay off for the main storyline. With a bonus, excellently written rescue dog who saves various days in various ways!

Nasal narration and book need more editing.
Revisado: 12-31-24
A deeply okay read. The plot dipped in and out of being fun to read and sometimes contradicted itself. Weird wording errors and repeated words were a distraction. The narration does the book no favors and makes the less charming MC sound pretty awful at times. Meh.

Historia
My loser high school friend never deserved him anyway. If I’d had the chance, I would have locked Remy down years ago. Only, when the party leads to a drunken kiss, going on their honeymoon, and sharing their marital bed, I have to say, I’m not entirely sad that their wedding went up in flames.

Clunky and heavy handed
Revisado: 02-25-24
I appreciated the focus on mental health, but the storylines related to that were handled in a really clunky, heavy handed way. it felt like an after-school special more than a novel by and for adults. The book had some sweet moments and some effective scenes, but I skipped through a lot of them because they just dragged. If you want to read romance with characters dealing with mental health and/or abusive relationships, Alexis Hall writes about the subject with some real nuance and poetry and still creates very readable books. Try Glitterland, Boyfriend Material, even the over-the-top How to Bang a Billionaire trilogy has more emotional reality than this book.

Formulaic and weirdly boring
Revisado: 01-02-24
The author introduced sooooo many plot points and the story still dragged. The pseudo psychology on abuse was also pretty crummy. Just a meh all around.

Historia
Erik Keston, son of the Keston Real Estate empire, knows what it takes to be successful. Despite his inherent wealth, he holds his own. He works hard, he's grounded, he's brilliant. He's also secretly in love with his best friend. Monroe Wellman lost his parents three years ago and never grieved, never recovered. Inheriting the family company and wealth means nothing, and his spiral of self-destruction is widespread and spectacular. Dubbed Sydney's bad boy, he spends more days drunk than sober, and the only person who's stuck by him through it all is his best mate.

Bit of a clunker from this author
Revisado: 12-01-23
I usually enjoy this author, but this book felt very heavy-handed and awkwardly paced. The narration did not help, as it was stilted and a bit William Shatnerish at times. a solid B- effort, but N.R. Walker has many books that are more immersive and sophisticated.

Too much needlessly drawn out angst, not enough real plot, too many repeated words. Also this confirms my suspicion that werewolf books are just not for me.

Historia
It’s the middle of the night when part-time police consultant and full-time empath Reece gets an anonymous call warning him that his detective sister needs his help. At an out-of-the-way Seattle marina, he discovers that three people have been butchered—including the author of the country’s strictest anti-empathy bill, which is just days from being passed into law. Soon, Reece’s caller arrives: a shadowy government agent known as The Dead Man, who is rumored to deal exclusively in cases involving empathy.

Clunky and unsatisfying
Revisado: 04-30-23
I like this author, but not this book. The premise is clunky and overwrought, and the explanations of it become tedious. The implied romance hardly exists, the noirish storyline is oddly boring, and the whole experience was unsatisfying.

way too uneven for me
Revisado: 12-01-21
Even Joel Leslie's narration could not save this collection for me. Too much casual violence mixed with too many unnecessary repeated descriptions of a coffee shop. The whole thing was just not enough satisfaction and too much gore and fluff. I made it a little way into the second book and then gave up.

Historia
If England had yearbooks, I'd probably be "Arden St. Ives: Man Least Likely to Set the World on Fire." I've no idea what I'm doing at Oxford and, until a week ago, I had no idea who Caspian Hart was. Turns out, he's brilliant, beautiful...oh yeah, and a billionaire. It's impossible not to be captivated by someone like that. But Caspian Hart makes his own rules. And he has a lot of them. About when I can be with him. What I can do with him. And when he'll be through with me. But now that Caspian's shown me glimpses of the man behind the billionaire I know it's him I want.

super fun, hot romance with excellent narration
Revisado: 01-28-21
I avoided this series because I don't find the idea of emotionally unavailable billionaires compelling in any way, but I caved because I adore this author, especially Pansies. So glad I gave this book a try, it is a delight.
