Historical Genius
Revisado: 04-15-22
This was our book club selection for February, 2022, as we observed Black History month. The research required by the author to authenticate her lineage from Africa to America was one of its most captivating features; then to accept her role in preserving verbal history, coupled with her desire to commit them to writing, was quite a feat. The narration was excellent and very realistic to the listener as voices from the past were spoken. It's an excellent portrayal of the author's family. I would highly recommend it for those who want to delve deeper into their family lines and any others who value family ties that bind.

Who Am I?
Revisado: 02-11-22
This book is quite a compelling read for anyone who has tried to retrace the steps of his/her African heritage. There are no supporting documents and few paper trails for this quest. Bettye Kearse and Alex Hayley have proven that with perserverence and love of who one really is, it can be done; these attributes are crucial. I love the things uncovered in this book. We will never know all that people/family stolen from Africa endured on the slave ships, in slave markets, nor plantation life. We do know they were robbed of their identity, cruelly treated, and torn from the people they loved in their native countries. They trusted in God for His grace and strength to endure. Thank you Mrs. Kearse and Karen Chilton for jobs well done! This book has touched my heart in so many ways. If we can't tell "our own story," we can certainly encourage others to read yours!

Historia
Each of us is living a story-the story of our life. For Sam Collier, his story started with rejection, because when he and his twin sister were born, their biological mother gave them up for adoption. Though Sam loved his adoptive family, life sometimes felt like a puzzle missing crucial pieces. But it was also the way God would reach into Sam's life and show him that he didn't have to write his own story-because it was really God who was telling his story through Sam.

Book Club Selection/Five Star Rating
Revisado: 04-13-21
This book was my book club's selection for March, 2021. I thoroughly enjoyed the chronicled life of Pastor Sam Collier before his quest to find his biological mother, which was at
the suggestion of his adoptive father. His twin sister was the one who landed the spot on the Steve Harvey Show. Some of our book members opined that the quest for the biological mother was slow in developing, which caused them to abandon the book. Others of us thoroughly enjoyed the journey of his and his sister's life before reaching that climatic part of the book. Pastor Collier's transparency was so refreshing and honest. Being a Christian is a one-time decision, but the journey from there is often full of pitfalls and wrong turns. Realizing that God is ordering our steps and weaving our lives is a remarkable revelation for all believers. It lets us know that His ultimate plan is always for His Glory, not ours. I would highly recommend this book!
