the world building seemed a bit thin at times. there could have been more of a character arc for the MC. I didn't find the characters very engaging, the setup for the climax had a deus ex machine feel to it.

internal story logic fails.

this is categorized as military fiction. there is a major disconnect with this genre. either the government in the story is made of complete idiots, or the author did not think things through. who in their right mind would use a cruise ship as a military command. that illogical aspect prevented me from getting into the story. this was a complete waste of a sale credit.

the fool triumphant, is usually an amusing read when done well. This book needed a good editor to rein in the author, or more honest beta readers. The main character is even more of a spoiled child than the previous books.

The author gets too focused on anime, specifically the last Airbender. the comparisons of several different books or series, are used to good effect. but the constant references to anime series, was a major distraction, and caused me to struggle with maintaining interest.
